Crockpot Slow Cooker |

If you haven’t used a crockpot or slow cooker, you’re in for a treat. If you have used a crockpot before, but had it go out, then you need to know the best model to select the next time you purchase a crockpot. Many people are confused when the go to a store and see crockpots and slow cookers. The manufacturer really makes it appear as if there’s a difference, when in fact there is not. The real difference is in the name that Rival registered and owns the copyright to when spelled with a hyphen – crock-pot®. To be legally correct, this appliance is generally referred to as a slow cooker in published materials. Although slow cooker better describes the cooker, most people refer to crockpot when they make a purchase. There are many different sizes to choose from when purchasing a crockpot. Although the most popular sizes are 3-4 quarts for feeding up to two people, many people prefer to invest in a 6 quart model to feed an entire family. Most crockpot recipes are designed for the smaller crockpot, but you can easily double the recipe with no problems. You will find crockpots that come as one unit, but the removable crockpot insert is essential. This makes it easier to fill and clean. The larger crockpots are heavy and you want to be able to lift the insert and fully immerse it for cleaning. A fixed crockpot cannot be put in water for cleaning due to the electrical cord. This makes it very difficult to clean. The removable crockpot gives you more options for cooking. For instance, you can fill the crockpot, place it in the refrigerator and place it in the electrical unit when you’re ready to start cooking. You certainly can’t do this with a one unit model. When you’re done cooking and eating, just put the removable crockpot back in the refrigerator instead of transferring leftovers to a storage pot. You can see how many benefits there are to investing in a removable crockpot. The lid on your crockpot is an important feature that can increase the cooking efficiency and reduce the time cleaning up. The best lid is domed and made of a single piece of glass. The dome is much more efficient as it traps the heat and allows the condescended liquid to drip back into your pot rather than dripping down around the edge of the pot. Although lids with screwed on plastic handles with a strip of metal around the edge are less efficient, you can still make a great meal and your recipe won’t be at all compromised. The most important feature in a good lid is to make sure that liquid from the lid will run back into the pot. An edge that slants inward will help avoid serious spills and splatters from the lid. The cooking unit of the crockpot should sit on a wide and low base. The cooking temperatures will be very high and the cooking unit must be able to hold the weight of the insert for long periods. Lift up the base and make sure it’s stable, including the handles. You may want to take the unit to a party or special event and you won’t be able to lift the whole unit if it’s not sturdy. Slow cookers have been around for a long time and are available in so many unique models. A Rival crockpot is one of the first and in my opinion one of the best. I’ve had other models last less than a year, but my Rival just keeps on cooking.
