Winter Trout Fly Fishing It is winter time now. One step on the frozen porch steps first thing in the morning removes any doubt of that fact. Winter time brings on many thoughts, holidays, dark afternoons, football on TV and for me some of the best trout fly fishing there is. That’s right trout fishing, winter steelhead fly fishing has been around a long time, and gets more popular every season. But the truth of the...... Choosing The Proper Fly Fishing Leader And Tippet Selecting the correct tapered leader and tippet for the type of fishing you are about to do is crucial. Nothing can spook fish quicker than an oversized tippet for the particular situation. On the other hand, and undersized tippet can result in the fly fisher losing their trophy before they even get a photo opportunity. We will start at the very basic of leader and tippet selection and then get...... Similar Editorial : Reveal the Leader Within by Julie and Graham. | Source : Carp Fishing France
De-Mystifying Fly Fishing I remember the first time I saw someone fly fishing. I think I was five years old. My father, my sister and I had back packed to a remote alpine lake. My trusty Zebco with the closed face push button casting reel, cork bobber and jar of Puatzke’s, among my gear I couldn’t live without. Positioned on a log vigilently eyeing my bobber for movement, a one-man raft paddled past, and in no time the...... Source : Carp Fishing France
Fishing The Dropper Fly The two fly dropper system is simply a way to fish two flies at one time, actually a fly fisher could fish more than two flies, but for this article we will stick to just two flies. The advantages of fishing two flies can be many. You can more quickly identify the 'hot fly', if fish hit one fly repeatedly you can eliminate the dropper fly. Another advantage is your ability to search through...... Similar Editorial : Fly Fishing by Tommy Thompson. | Source : Carp Fishing France
Fly Fishing In High Water Thta magical mysterious place was, across the Cascade Mountains at the legendary Deschutes River. Home of montser trout. I dozed somewhat on the drive over, waking up to donuts and hot chocolate, as we rambled through the forest. At last, we descended on the flat juniper country of the 'East side', and finally began our twisting descent down the canyon to the mighty river. With my dog, I pressed...... Bull Trout Once common in Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon, as well as Alberta and British Columbia, it has now declined so much as to be put on the endangered species list. Of course human degradation of the environment is much to be blame. But at least as big a factor is introduced species. The Bull Trout was considered an enemy of the Rainbow Trout, because of their predatory nature, so as Rainbows...... Finding Lake Trout First off lake fish and river fish have the same needs. They need to feel secure, and they need to eat. The greatest difficulty in figuring out where lake fish might meet these needs is that from above the lake the water doesn't give us many clues, and sometimes none at all. Rivers are nice enough to change surface appearance, which is probably the single greatest factor in determining likely...... Choosing A Fly Rod For many reasons, it is with some trepidation that I approach this subject. As I have stated in previous articles about fly fishing gear, you ask 15 people, and you get 15 different opinions. Choosing a fly rod is no different. In fact it might be the epitome of that statement. Fly anglers are picky about their fly rods, and they love their fly rods. To many it is like comparing spouses, and if...... Anglers Attention I spent many years, especially when I didn't have much time to fish, ignoring angler's attention. If I could steal away even an hour or two, racing down to the river I would go. In a virtual panic, scouring out my favorite fishing spots, then cursing to myself, when they were taken. Frantically I would find a spot to fish, splash out there, and heave out my line. Fishing, at last, my heart would...... Similar Editorial : Attention PR Shoppers by Robert A. Kelly. | Source : Salt Water Fishing Tackle
