COCOON BOOM - Bauhaus Design Furniture
When the Bauhaus design movement began in the early twentieth century in Germany, few realized the impact this would have, particularly as a carryover to the twenty-first. Presently, the ?cocoon boom? is fast gaining momentum particularly in America, where people prefer to use their home for entertaining and informal dining. Strangely, the two movements, if one can call the latter such, have something in common, the Bauhaus as a reaction to social transformation and aesthetic relevance, while the cocoon boom is making a societal change of a different sort, using aestheticism to change how people live. Modern and contemporary designstarted its roots from Bauhaus design movement.

Marcel Breuer - Modern and Contemporary Furniture Designer
Straight lines, smooth slim forms, no superfluity, the honest use of materials and processes to satisfy the functional needs of the time during the Bauhaus design movement have come to stay. This movement percolated in our day-to-day lives with modern and contemporary design trends in home furniture.

Le Corbusier - Modern and Contemporary Furniture Designer
The modern and contemporary design trends have been set by well known names like Marcel Breuer and his design of the Wassily chair,Le Corbusier ?s LC4 (Lounge Chair),Mies van der Rohe's design of the Pavillion chair are just a few examples of how man, machine and nature can live in happy cohesion with these time tested modern classic designs.

It is only natural to ask, but who can afford these modern classics? It stands to reason that what began as a movement with The "New Man" as the ideal through a workable combination of art, economics and engineering should yield to the present demand for modern and contemporary furniture at low cost, scaled to fit any space, easy to maintain and even multi-functional, yet simple and sensible.
