When we have ceramic or natural stone tile in our bathrooms, kitchen, or other rooms in our home, it can look really beautiful and ornate until we noticed how grungy looking the grout has become. This is especially unsightly when it is in the bathroom and we notice that nasty mold has begun to grow on it. We usually try to keep up with a dirty bathroom, but with our busy lifestyles it can be difficult to fit in all the time we need for deep down cleaning.

No one wants to walk in their bathroom to bathe and see mold growing on the grout of the tub or sink. Mold grows more easily on bathroom grout because it is porous and the conditions are usually right in a bathroom to promote and sustain mold. The warm moist atmosphere created by hot baths and showers provide the perfect environment.

When you are faced with getting rid of mold on grout, you can wash it off with some cleaners and it will keep coming back. The best way to get rid of it more permanently is to use bleach or another mold killing product. If you have mold in the grout of a natural stone floor, you will need to follow directions for cleaning that because some harsh cleaners could discolor or break down your natural tile. Bleach or other chlorine cleaners is fine to use on ceramic tile.

The best way to keep mold from returning to grout and other areas is to make sure there is adequate ventilation to get rid of moisture. After you have scrubbed grout with abrasive cleaners so many times, you will be removing the grout with each scrubbing. You need to make sure that you have not removed so much of the grout in the cleaning process that you leave cracks that water can seep into. This can cause mold to begin growing behind the tile where you can not see it and this is the last thing that you want. When your tile grout has been removed to a certain point, you will need to have it grouted again to prevent water from getting behind it.

Grouting tile that has already been installed is not very difficult and almost anyone can do it. You simply spread it on and allow it to set for the recommended amount of time and then wipe off the excess and allow it to complete drying. When you need grout your tile, buy a brand that is mold, mildew, and stain resistant and you will not have to scrub in the future nearly as hard or as often to keep it clean looking.
