The Dead Sea (Sea of Salt) is a salt lake between the West Bank and Israel to the west, and Jordan to the east, said to be the lowest point on Earth (420 meters below sea level). The sea is called "dead" because its high salinity means no macroscopic aquatic organisms such as fish or water plants can live in it.
The Dead Sea attracts many visitors for thousands of years due to its extremely salty water, which has 30 percent salinity. The Dead Sea’s climate and its unique conditions created by its low elevation have made it a popular center for several types of therapies, such as sun radiation treatment, treatment that exploits black mud of the Dead Sea, bathing treatment and others.
The hotels located in the area are Prima Oasis, Hod Hamidbar, Le Meridien, Caesar Premier, just a short distance from ancient biblical and historical sites. Some Dead Sea hotels, like Sheraton Moriah, stretch alongside a private beach; luxurious sites, overlooking the Dead Sea, provide a wonderful resort.
Historical sites present in the area include fortresses and palaces build by King Herod (the stronghold of Massada), Greek monasteries, Qumran caves. The Dead Sea is known as one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the world.
The name Olu Deniz means dead sea. The resort is given this on account of the shallow calm crystal waters of its lagoon. It is a designated protected area, which means that development around the lagoon itself is prohibited. There is a small charge to enter the lagoon area with proceeds going towards its upkeep and preservation. However this area is one of the most beautifully areas in Turkey and will always be used and traditional postcards.
It is a purpose built resort with a good amount of small hotels and a range of shopping facilities.
Despite its popularity the resort has a laid-back atmosphere with a selection of hotels restaurants shops and bars nestled between the public beach and the mountains.
In addition to the famed paragliding there is also a variety of water sport activities available such as parasailing and windsurfing. Around the beach area it can be a little more expensive than further in land. Beaches in Turkey offer miles of sand and shingle sea fronts.
The sea is the deepest blue. Weather in Turkey during the summer months is always extremely hot and very populated. The season opens in April and closes in October. The winter months are cold.
The resort Olu Denizs offers traditional Turkish baths no trip to Turkey is without one. Wrap yourself in an sarong relax on a heated marble slab and enjoy the invigorating body loofah scrub and get covered head to toe in warm bubbles. Above all it is a great day out for kids and adults. Some say it is better to have a Turkish bath at the beginning of a holiday because it gets rid of dead skin and obviously if you have developed a suntan you dont want to rub it off. Turkish baths are offered in hotels and saunas in the town. There is usually a small charge.
Traditional foods include meze. This dish comprise of at least fifteen or so delicacies such as pan-fried liver, garlicky, yoghurts infused with coriander and vine wrapped rice parcels flavoured with herbs, currents and pine nuts. The mainstays of Turkish cruise is unsurprisingly kebabs. Shish kebabs are lamb or chicken with vegetables on a skewer and doner kebabs are a roast joint sliced served on a pitta.
