Due to the increase in the popularity of the internet in recent years, many web hosting companies have sprung up offering service and reliability for a nominal fee. These web hosting companies appeal to many companies, small and large, as well as individuals who would like to create their own internet presence. One of the features that are offered by these web hosting companies is a guarantee that their services will be available and ready for use whenever the client wants to use them. But can any web hosting company guarantee that they will be up 100% of the time?

Most web hosting companies would not be able to make the guarantee of 100% up time because they do not have the products and backup features available to make that claim true. Many of the web hosting companies that are available on the internet are small businesses with limited resources. These businesses do not have the massive server farms and software to be able to claim truthfully that they can guarantee that they will be up 100% of the time. In fact, these web hosting companies can experience significant down time if any issues arise with their equipment.

Another reason why the claim of 100% up time is not true for many web hosting companies is the inability to foresee adverse events that may affect the performance of the web hosting company. No web hosting company would be able to foresee the introduction of a virus into their system that may shut them down for a time. There is also no way to foresee physical or natural events that may indirectly affect the productivity of the web hosting company, such as lightening strikes, power failures, or human error. For these reasons, no company should make the claim that they can guarantee 100% up time.

There are many companies that have the ability to guarantee a better than 95% up time to their clients and make good on the guarantee. This is because these web hosting companies have invested the time and capital into their products to make them more reliable and to create a feasible back up plan for when issues do arise. Because making the services reliable more than 95% of the time is very costly, typically only the larger web hosting companies that charge a significant amount for their services are able to make this claim. There is no web hosting company that can truthfully claim 100% up time for all of their customers because one never knows what the future may hold.
