Yet, this Swiss company, with its headquarters in Lengnau, Switzerland, was destined to make watches. After 26 years of making watches and 66 years of being in business the company came under ownership of the Swatch Group (formally the SMH Group), the biggest watch manufacturer in the world.
Rado now makes about a half million watches in a year and has a total staff of about 300.
Known for watches that have a high class futuristic look, Rado was the first company to create a scratch-resistant watch. Their first scratch-resistant watch was the Rado Diastar Original released in 1962.
Rado uses unconventional precious metals on a regular basis in their designs. The company uses sapphire crystals, high-tech diamonds, ceramics, and lanthanum. Using these materials, Rado makes unique creations that attract people who are looking for high quality watches with sleek unexpected designs.
The watch company also likes to use steel and gold together to create melding looks with other high tech materials. These watches offer a range of looks that can be purchased by peoples with a variety of incomes.
Rado watches range from the lower-tiered watches starting at $400 to the watches made with many precious metals topping at $3,000.
The watches’ batteries last anywhere from two to four years, depending on which watch it is. Some watches’ functions require a higher amount of energy consumption.
These watches are also water resistant to a depth of just over 98 feet with a water pressure of up to 45 pounds per square inch. Many people don’t understand that running water from their tap can have a higher water pressure than that.
The best precaution is to take the watch off when involved in water or water sports. But if you just can’t take off your precious Rado watch, then it’s good to take the watch at least once year to a watch expert to check on the watch’s condition.
When looking into getting your on hands on one of these special timepieces, it’s good to know what to pick from. There’s the V10K, the Ceramica, Sinatra, Integral, Rado True, Original, eSenza, Anatom, and the Joaillerie. All of these but the Joaillerie, Integral and the Rado True are colored with a sleek black look.
The Joaillerie has a sleek, soft blue color that is highlighted by the 206 diamonds that surround the watch’s face, bracelet and hands.
The V10K, Ceramica, eSenza, Anatom, and Joaillerie all have diamonds embellishing them. The number of diamonds on these watches range from four to 206. The other watches’ styles range from classy Sinatra with four sapphire crystals, to classic Integral with a silver and gold finish to Rado True with a much more relaxed young look.
