"Huh? Do they really exist?" Yes. No. Maybe. The whole topic is rather mysterious, but most experts will usually tell you "No, there is no such thing". Even though that is probably true, the phrase "traffic generator" typically refers to passive forms of traffic, rather than actual software. Therefore, in a way, they really do exist.

If you've never heard the term before, it can be a bit misleading. Yet, if you take some time and learn about "traffic generators", then you will understand why that phrase is used. When a webmaster discovers a method that brings in traffic, he'll do whatever he can to exploit that technique and get as much free traffic possible. If he is able to automate that technique to the point that it requires little to no work, then he successfully built a traffic generator and his website will start receiving traffic on a regular basis.

So how can you build one and make it successful? Well, it isn't something you can just throw together in one or two hours. It will take time, patience, and in most cases, some research (usually keyword research). The most important aspect of building a traffic generator is that it is going to require a lot of patience and hard work. So if you try to half-ass it, you're not going to get much targeted traffic. Generally speaking, the more you work, the more traffic you will gain and the bigger your "generator" will ultimately become.

If you are new to generating web site traffic, then you should start by building a mini-generator. This means that you won't be utilizing the more advanced techniques. Basically, you just want to get your feet wet by seeing how traffic generation actually works. The best way to start this process is by writing articles. By writing articles and submitting them to the right directories, your "generator" will be running at full steam within 1-2 weeks. Remember, this isn't a 1-2 hour job; so don't be surprised if you have to wait a little while before seeing any impressive results.
