Web hosting is the business of hosting, serving and maintaining files for a website; it refers to where all of the files that make up your website and email can be found. Web hosting allows individuals as well as organisations to provide people with access to their website via the Internet.

Web hosts are the companies that provide you with this web hosting, these web hosts are usually part of a web design company and they provide a space for your website on their server as well as providing you with Internet connectivity, which typically happens in a data centre. Web hosts can also provide data centre space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data centre, which is called collocation.

With web hosting services the scale of hosting that you will receive varies widely, the most basic of which is small scale hosting where files can be uploaded via a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a web interface to create pages for your website. These files are then usually delivered to the Web with little processing, some Internet service providers will offer you this service for free but if you really want the best from web hosting then you are better paying a small fee of about £5 a month; hardly breaking the bank!

Going back to the scale of web hosting, there are different levels of web hosting that you are able to gain; the more advanced the web hosting you want the slightly more you will be paying per month but even if you want one of the most advanced forms of web hosting then you won't really be paying more than £21 per month but for most of us, even if you are a business you probably won't need a web hosting package this advanced. So why should you pay someone to host your website and not just do it yourself?

Using a web hosting company removes the need of you having to provide and maintain expensive and complicated servers. Typically, an individual business hosting its own site would require a high speed connection, the Server hardware and the expertise to set-up and configure a web Server. Using a hosting service allows companies and individuals to get on to the Internet without the expense or effort of maintaining their own Servers.

Web hosting allows you to start up the website that you need to get your business off the ground. With a web hosting service you know that any technical problems will be taken care of straight away and you will have telephone support when you need it. If you were hosting your website from your own servers and you experienced a problem with it would you know how to fix it? Chances are you won't but with a web hosting company you don't need to worry about things like this.

Also if your web hosting company is part of a web design company you always have the option of using the web design company to build up your website for you.

Web hosting has so many advantages so its time you start making the most of them; get in touch with a web hosting company today.
