With today's technology you really can work from just about anywhere (in the world) but:-
There are pitfalls working from home.
When working from home you need to have a strong focus on your work, you must close the door from distraction's and organize your work area as if you where in a commercial premises, and most important set your hours that you work. Also let your friends and family know that you are at work and just popping in for a chat is not acceptable. They couldn't do it if you worked in an office down town. It is too easy to blur the home and the office, especially when you can see the lounge room complete with the kids the spouse or the TV.
There are great advantages working from home.
I MUCH prefer and LOVE working from home. There are huge cost savings and tax benefits. You save on vehicle fuel and running costs, parking and or public transport cost, and just in general the hassle of traffic (so you are in a better mood right from the start of the day). And so this time you once used to commute can now be used very effectively in your home based business.
Before you start up a business from home there is a few things to find out first: if there are restrictions from your local council, or do you need special areas, such as if you are doing food you MUST follow health and food safe requirements, others may include, a certain amount of floor space for the business, other issues may be NO displaying of goods in the windows, around the house or along the kerb or putting up any banners or advertising material, how many visitors will you be expecting per day etc, as you can see there may be many things you need to address but most are simple enough and the council usually works WITH you on these matters.
Another option is to start up an on line business, you can become quite wealthy from your online endeavors. The possibilities are literally endless. But, just as in the real physical world, you will only get out of it whatever you put into it.
There are quite a few different ways that you can make a decent income by working online. The most popular is affiliate marketing. This is where you put adds, or text links on web pages, advertising products from merchants, and when a visitor is on your site and clicks on the ad or link, they are taken to the merchant's web site, this customer then makes a purchase, and this customer is digitally tracked so that the commission is paid to the right affiliate.
When you start a new business that you have no or limited experience, or knowledge on, you will need to do a lot of research in to it, like how it works, will it suite your personality? Pitfalls verse opportunity, take it from me you will have quite a steep learning curve.
The best solution that I have come across is to join a mentoring program, this will ease the learning curve considerably and to have some teach you all the ways to avoid the pitfalls will fast track you to prosperity
