For beginners, books that illustrate intricate designs and complicated techniques are not really for you. On the other hand, advanced beginners can benefit from those kinds of books. The first thing you might want to do is find a general face painting book. This way you can have a broad understanding of what face painting is all about. A typical face painting book for beginners includes:

- A general definition or introduction to face painting -Basic tools and materials -Basic design steps -Easy-to-follow samples

For beginners, look for face painting books with lots of pictures for your to follow. Picture illustrations are so much easier to follow than when viewing a bunch of instructional words. Once you already have a general idea about face painting, try it out! One way to grow is to start experimenting and eliminating that fear of mistakes.

Once you've mastered the basic skills, you can slowly proceed to the second step. Look for a more specific face painting book. For example, if you find that you are more into animal face painting, find books that cater only to that particular theme; if you like to paint flowers, bees or birds, you can look for face painting books that relate to those designs like those on nature themes. This way, you are able to focus and build on your strengths. Here are some examples of intermediate books:

- Halloween face painting - animal face painting - special effects face painting

Look for books that can give you additional techniques when you are already in more advanced levels. Even if you are already great in painting a particular theme or design, technical face painting books can give your works of art that extra kick. Here are some new things you can learn from a more advanced face painting book:

- applying glitter, body jewelry and other props - creating the illusion of feathers and fur - how to place colors side by side without smudging - how to face paint in lesser time - how to face paint on children - how to create a professional face painter's portfolio - more advice on safety like how to get insurance for your sideline work - where to look for inspiration - where to find the best tools and materials as well as other sources of information

These are just some of the things included in an advanced face painting book. For the beginner, finding the best face painting book means learning basics and gradually climbing up to more professional books. All you need is perseverance and the right book to start with.
