Are you a rap or hip-hop junkie inspired to want to create your own hot rap beats - now is the time to to get started and try it for yourself. Gone are the days when you needed to spend a small fortune to get beat software capable of producing amazing beats. Today it's all a lot more affordable and easier to do as well.

There are a few reasons why this might be the case. Firstly, the arrival of fully online software that you don't have to install means that there are large cost benefits for companies creating beat software. Secondly, more and more competition in the marketplace means the software companies are adopting more aggressive pricing strategies. Good news for you!

Make sure to look out for the following if you are a new, or soon-to-be-hot music producer and you are selecting which beat software to use.

This is vital. When you're just getting started you really don't want the complexity or lack of user-friendliness of the software getting in your way. If you can't get the software to do what you want it to do, what good is it? The right beat software will rapidly become an extension of your thought process to the point that you don't have to think about what you're doing. Don't confuse 'easy to use' with 'feature-limited' either. You should expect a full set of beat creation features even in budget priced packages.

You shouldn't have to sell a kidney to be able to afford a good piece of beat software that will have enough features to allow you to learn the central skills of making beats. You really don't want to spend a lot of money on software that will be beyond your abilities at this time. If it's expensive and complex you will probably just get frustrated with it and end up not using it.

While you may be going for a grungy, edgy, street sound with your music, the quality of the instrument and sound samples that your beat software uses still need to be top notch. If they are sampled at too low a sample rate or using poor quality equipment or microphones, you simply won't be happy with the end results. By all means adjust each sample to get the tone and feel you want, but start out with good samples and the process will be much more rewarding.

At the end of the day, if you can't extract a really good beat from your software, it's not doing its job. But make sure the package you choose allows you to create MP3 files. That way, not only can you download your latest beat to your MP3 player to listen to whenever you like - this is especially useful if you are trying to write a rap to go with it - but you can also quickly share your beat with friends and get their feedback.

Whether or not you turn out to be the next hot stuff producer, one thing's for sure, using beat software to make you own beats is massive fun!
