However, like all things, CDs too have a shelf life. After sometime, a CD is bound to develop scratches since it comes into contact with so many different surfaces and hands. No amount of encasing or covering will help protect a CD all its life. And we all know what happen to a CD when it scratches ? it is rendered useless. This is highly frustrating especially if it is a movie DVD recently purchased, over sensitive information of which you have no back up.

But again, like all things, CDs too can be fixed. Scratched discs need not be thrown and you need not spend money on buying new CDs all the time. Fixing repaired discs is possible and easy. However, a lot depends on the extent of the damage to the disc. If the scratches are deep, or have reached the inner foil layer, then repairing the disc is impossible. This inner layer is where all the information is stored. Any damage to this layer, and the information is gone for good.

This inner layer is protected by a top and bottom layer. The top layer is the one on which you write or stick labels to mark your CD. It will also often have graphics displayed. The bottom layer is a plastic layer that protects the inner layer. Any damage to these two layers can be easily repaired. To do this, you could take the CD to any hardware store or even the company itself which will fix the damage for you. Even a computer or hardware mechanic should be able to do this. However, this will take a lot of time and not to mention money. There is, however an easier way.

There are many scratched discs repair services online that you could take the help of. All you have to do is register yourself on such websites along with your name and address. They mail you a three way CD mailer and you can send your scratched discs to them. In a few days time, your CDs are back, good to go. The website offers you a money back guarantee if the discs don't work after they come back. What's more if they realize they can't fix your CD, you don't get charged.

In spite of this, it would be a good idea to check the extent of the damage onto your CD before you send it across. A little cleaning with a soft cloth is sometimes all that is required to brush off any dust and get the CD working again. However, you've got to be careful if the CD contains sensitive information, that you cannot afford losing. In such cases, mailing it to the right professionals is the best option.
