Experience The Differences
Tom Takihi
We human beings have always been fascinated with our fellow humans with regards to culture and other qualities that tend to differentiate us not from each other as different people but as ones who belong to different cultures. We are all unique as human beings and being unique makes us naturally curious of our geographical neighbors. We love to travel by nature to discover and experience other cultures that allow us to absorb and enjoy them in their unique forms.
As we move from country to country, the uniqueness of a culture cannot be more evident than the differences we have in culture that is composed by art, music and many more forms of expression that is different from our own. With the advent of television and broadcasting, it became possible to experience second hand a different culture while sitting down in the comfort of our own homes. This curiosity being inherent of us humans entices us to learn and if possible experience these cultures adding them to our life’s experiences further broadening our knowledge of our fellow man.
Architecture is one of the most prominent indications of cultural richness we all differ in, from the ancient architectural marvels that have lost to the ones that have been found, we could not help but marvel at the uniqueness we see as we move from country to country. Influences of different cultures are also evident in the form that can reflect in either the style of designs or based on patterns derived from those architectural marvels that exist in our respective homelands. We all tend to bring a little something from our roots or home country when we travel or go to live in another.
Being able to experience first hand the diversity of human culture is the best teacher that can educate us at the things that make us unique from those who live just across the ocean. But becoming a tourist is not without risk for due to socio-economic reasons tourists have become one of the most likely targeted victims of crimes in foreign lands. One must do research as part of their preparation process long before they purchase their plane tickets. This not only avoids getting in trouble but gets you a bird’s eye view of the different cultures and other necessary details that could influence your travel plans. Consulting with a travel professional is the easiest way to get information on a country you are planning to visit but some of the more adventurous types want to experience a culture at it’s raw unadulterated/scripted forms. Most tourist spots now function on the premise that tourists are after the grandeur of our lineage but end up putting up shows that tend to shield us from the truth of daily life in and around the country you are visiting.
Try going on a tour package and you will get a scheduled visit to areas that are designated and developed to be tourist destinations without the true reflection of the culture we so aim to experience. What we get is a show of paid people who do what they do for a living rather that to differentiate themselves from other races. The good thing is that there are plenty of resources available around to get us started on the right path of discovery that would allow you to plan and map out the type of trip you would want your visit to another country to take. Word of advice, do your research and don’t jump into a puddle without testing the depth of the water. Many a tourist have ended up in trouble due to ignorance and disrespect for cultural differences we all share. Consult your foreign services on travel advisories and current socio-economic conditions and tend to stay away from areas where tourists are the targets of choice as victims. Heed the advice and have an enjoyable trip you would never forget and enjoy the memories for as long as you live.
