Just last week I was scanning through a piece in FT and found about this thing I hadnever heard of before called a skype phone. The two guys who started up skipe are now rich beyond their wildest dreams because of selling their concept to one of the premier sites on the web,e bay.You are probably wondering what I am going on about.Itis called voice over internet protocol. It is not a new idea, making long distance calls over the internet for free.
Basically then you will be able to chat to whoever you like whenever you like wherever they are in the world and can even see them if you have skipe and a webcam. It is essential you get a rapid connection as quickly as you can.Video bandwidth does not justify clarity over a slow connection.
Ebay the massive auction site is also auctioning skyp phones. We think skype has been in existence for a year to date and it is proving hugely popular.
The bigger commercial telecom firms are beginning to sell voice over internet protocol packages. The question on everyones tongues is will it last the distance. Will the net spell the end for voice over ip.
My assumption is that it is still in its infancy and inevitably will go through a time where a lot of different firms will come up with different ways to do this. The government will undoubtedly see the plusses and want to add money to their coffers by using voip.At the moment skype makes its money by charging people who phone land lines from theirlaptop using it.
The next big thing which voip are making a cheeky move towards is the idea of web conferencing. Voice Over IP comes pretty close, except that it will be eventually typified as an internet phone service, ready to take that next step of video conferencing which gained a lot of attention years ago.
Audio and video are becoming more accessible for everyone nowadays-in this day and age especially with the massive success of youtube.Everything says that audio and video will be the next biggest thing since sliced bread.
But one thing is for certain, it's not just hype they're muttering about, and only time will tell if the general public will catch on when they get their free skype download. We will know fairly soon how it manages.
