Computers and Addiction

By: Jesse Miller

No one ever told us that the extended use of computers could lead to addiction. I'm not talking about the kind of addition that drugs have, but it can also be as damaging.

Prolong use of computers, can cause mental breakdowns and people that spend to much time in front of one, risk problems that concern their personal life as well. I have learned recently that there are cases in which young men gave up school because they couldn't escape the grasp of computers. Games and movies seem to be an important aspect that keeps the user addicted and it is because of this is why he looses night at a row just to finish a game or to watch a movie.

There are documented cases in which some teenagers fell into a serious breakdown after their parent prohibited access to computers. The result was a complete personality crash and lost of will to live. I'm sure you have seen that people that spend lots of time in front of a computer seem to be a little cranky when they are interrupted from what they wore doing. This is typical behavior and it is the first step to getting addicted.
