Costa Ballena golf has some of the courses holes running parallel with the Atlantic as its location is south west Spain, North of Cadiz and East of Jerez and Seville.
The Costa Ballena Resort is a 27 hole championship course opened in 1995 and designed by Jose Maria Olazabel one of Spain's most famous recent players. He has designed an excellent course on this mainly flat area of land that can be enjoyed by players of all levels and enjoy the stunning views of the Atlantic. The course is well maintained and with its many water hazards and strategic bunkers, offers an enjoyable golfing challenge.
Costa Ballena Golf Course has some great holes the following are some playing tips for some of them.
Hole 5 is a long and wide hole with thick rough running down both sides of the fairway and a bunker on the left. The green is tricky with water right and back and the left protected by a bunker.
Hole 7 is a long dog leg right and hard to reach with a second shot iron on a wind against day. The green is protected by two bunkers on the left and like many of these holes, thick rough left and right.
Hole 10 has a sharp dog leg to the right making this a tricky par 5 to reach in two. There is water on the right form the tee and out of bounds on the left. The front of the green has two large bunkers and thick rough surrounds.
Hole 16 is a short par 3 where you must carry water then bunkers before negotiating the three tiered putting green making this a tricky par.
Hole 18 is said to be one of the best and longest holes at Costa Ballena Golf Course. It is a dog leg to the left with water on the left and thick rough on the right. The green is protected by bunkers, rough and a narrow fairway leading to it.
Hole 21 is another dog leg par 5. Again the approach to the green is narrow with a deep and wide bunker and rough protecting a large (shared with hole 23) green.
Hole 23 has a blind tee shot across the aqua duct and trees. The hole is short and the approach to the large green is unobstructed.
Costa Ballena Golf Course and Resort is an enjoyable place to stay, have a spa, enjoy some good food and of course enjoy the golf.
