Turn About On Certification On October 11th I was reading my email as usual when I opened one whichstated something so unbelievable that I had to read it three times. I willadmit the news was nothing compared to the events going on in the rest ofthe world (the September 11th terrorist attack and aftermath). However, itwas very welcome nonetheless.Microsoft has changed their policy on retiring certifications. If you will...... Product Review: Paint Shop Pro Many years ago I needed to create some graphics. Nothing fancy, just some images for documentation at work. I had used several graphics programs in the past, none of which really did the job that I needed. I wanted a simple interface, a lot of power, and most important of all, I didn't want to spend half the day waiting for the graphics program to catch up to me.I considered Adobe Photoshop, but...... Testing One of the hardest tasks for any IT department is that of testing. This is, in my experience, the area where we have the greatestfailures (next to estimating the cost and length of a project) andwhere we have incredibly room for improvement.I have been in the business for a long, long time, and the lack oftesting never fails to amaze me. There have been times when I'vereceived "finished" programs...... Similar Editorial : Testing Headlines by Patrick Quinn. | Source : Cheap Used Computer
DHCP At my day job, we were tasked with creating a Windows NT 4.0network from scratch with only minimal training on the operatingsystem. We were experts at working with OpenVMS and MacIntoshsystems, but none of us had ever seen Windows NT before. In thosedays long ago we were very cocky, and very naive - how hard couldit be to set up a new TCP/IP network? After all, we had masteredDECnet and Appletalk,...... Source : Cheap Used Computer

FTP Believe it or not, browsing the web with Internet Explorer or Netscape is relatively new. Product Review: Professional Capture System During my career I've written several hundred manuals for dozens of applications, operating systems, routines and hardware. This is an area that I've always felt is vitally important, yet it seems to be either completely overlooked or assigned at the last minute to the person who is lowest on the organization chart. I've seen projects with implementations that required dozens of man-years, yet...... Similar Editorial : Garmin Forerunner Product Review by Ty Thomas. | Source : Advanced Technologies Group Inc
