In the 1860s movies have first come to life. The progress that a movie has made ever since is truly remarkable. If in the beginning you could only see two dimensional pictures, now the technology allows us to view computer animated movies. However, it is not movie progress I am interested in, but what movies show us today.

At first, because of lack of technology, a movie was just a visual art. It had no structure, no tale to tell and no sound attached. Despite all that, movies had success from the beginning, because people were ready for something new. After a period of time, in the 1920s, talkies were brought to life. These were movies that now besides a structure also had sound. At about this period Hollywood also rose and with it a new era in film making. Who would have thought that almost a century later movies will still have the same impact on people, maybe even grater and that Hollywood would probably be more powerful than ever.

However, there are also some down sides that have to be mentioned. Although movies have made such a huge progress, sometimes it makes you wonder if it was not better when people could only see a two dimensional motion picture that had to story to tell, just to feast your eyes for a little while.

Nowadays, you see a well directed, well played and well structured movie that shows you how to kill people or harm the ones that are close to you and many more. Although I am very satisfied with the progress that cinematography has made and I myself am a very big movie fan, sometimes I stop and wonder if we were not better off without movies.

I will not over look the positive effect that movies have on us and the multitude of things that we learn from a movie, but sometimes I am inclined to believe that we learn much more bad things than we do good ones. Children are exposed to so much violence, we see murders, we see robberies, we see death and most of all we see the ugliest side of people. We teach our adolescents boys, through porn, that making love is over rated and that they have a right to treat girls just like those men treat them in porn movies.

I guess everything has to have a good side and a bad side to it and movies make no exception. However, sometimes I still stop and wonder if I have made a mistake letting my children see all types of movies. Yes, maybe they will learn a lot from a movie, but will they learn good things or bad ones?

Cosmetics are a big part of every woman? s life and little by little they have also started to enter men's lives as well. Cosmetics are defined as being substances intended for application to the human body for important beauty purposes such as cleansing, promoting activeness or altering ones appearance without ever affecting a person's body structure or functions.

However these are not the most interesting things you must know about cosmetics. The history of cosmetics is very interesting and it reveals things that many of us do not have a clue about. For example there are lots of people who believe that cosmetics are a modern invention. This is completely wrong, for cosmetics date as far as 4000 BC. So whoever said that people did not use cosmetics a long time ago was truly wrong. Of course, cosmetics were not used as often as they are used today and not all men and women had access to them.

The upper classes usually used cosmetics and all sorts of beauty treatments, but this was probably for the better anyway. The cosmetics used by the Romans and even the Ancient Egyptians contained lead and mercury which could not have been good for the skin at all. However as times changed so did cosmetics. But before it came down to today's situation, cosmetics have undergone some significant changes. For example, the materials used to make cosmetics were not always as good as they are today and using cosmetics could actually make you more ugly in time as they had a bad effect on you skin. There was also a time when cosmetics were mainly used by prostitutes and actors. However, those times went quickly because cosmetics were so appealing that people, especially women, did not last long until they had to use them.

Although cosmetics were and are intended to make women more beautiful and thus make them feel more confident, there were also some downs in the cosmetics business. Improperly tested, some cosmetics lead to blindness, deformities and even death among the users. This is very unfortunate, but it is something that belongs in the past. Today cosmetics are tested and there is not even the smallest threat of any problems occurring. Nowadays women have so many brands to choose from and the competition in the cosmetics world is so tight that no manufacturer can afford to make a mistake, especially a life- threatening one.
