Most air conditioning units will cost from three to six thousand dollars. So, it is a big investment and there are things that determine the purchasing decisions of an air conditioner.

Normally an installer or contractor is required to install an air conditioner. On the basis of the existing ducts and the type of the units purchased, the price of an air conditioner may vary from place to place. Besides, there are several companies with the different brands. So, before the final purchase, it is very much advisable to consult different contractors. Get several estimates from the different contractors and ensure the best purchase accordingly.

Generally the air conditioner is run by the electricity and the higher capacity air conditioner is taking higher amount of electricity. Especially in a warmer climate, an air conditioner is a necessity; the excessive usage mounts the electricity costs. But there are some air conditioners which are not that much expensive in the sense that they do not usually consume greater electricity due to that fact that they are efficient in curbing the consumption of the electricity in the process of cooling as well.

This exclusive requisite is called the EER factor. The EER stands for the Energy Efficiency Ratio. It is another parameter to determine the purchase. The higher the EER means the lower would be the consumable power by the air conditioner and as such, a less amount of electricity bills that you need to pay.

The size of the cooling unit is another factor to determine the purchase. For example, a big air conditioner for a small room means an extra expense which seems to be unnecessary. On the contrary a small air conditioner for a large room is, likely, of use at all. So, an apt size is to be required. You may ask the representative to know the exact volume desired. This aspect needs to be settled beforehand.

Last but not the least is the warranty factor. To purchase an air conditioner, you need to have a clear mention of warranty from the part of the manufacturer. The manufacturers usually do give a five-year-warranty, while it is better if that period is doubled, i.e. 10 years.
