The thyroid hormone system is linked to the metabolism that it regulates it. Because of its effect over the body chemical reactions the thyroid hormone system has a very important role in reducing the risks of unwanted effects. More exactly we can say that the thyroid hormone system has a main role in regulating the metabolism and its malfunction may lead to classic symptoms such as migraines, depressions, easy weight gain any many others.
The problems are related to the pituitary gland and to the thyroid gland. The pituitary gland locates in the head and the thyroid gland is located in the neck. When the metabolism slows down the pituitary gland secretes hormone called TSH, thyroid stimulating hormone. The thyroid gland has to respond by developing more thyroid hormone to lead to a speeding of the metabolism.
Even if it seems an easy phenomenon there are two questions that confuse the physicians. They do not always know how the thyroid hormone is produced in the thyroid gland and how does it speed up the metabolism. And the second problem is that many doctors do not realize how the stimulation is working. It is well known that the thyroid hormone is produced in the thyroid gland and it is not responsible for speeding up the metabolism. More than that, most of the active thyroid hormone is produced outside the thyroid gland, in body tissues.
It is also true that if you ask a doctor of the way it can realize if the thyroid system is working properly he will say that a blood test should reveal that. The problem is that many patients have normal thyroid blood but also develop low body temperatures and other thyroid problems.
Because of the problems and complications of the thyroid many doctors choose to overlook the syndromes. The Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome is one of the overlooked conditions of thyroid because a proper way for treating it was not found.
On the other hand we might say that hypothyroidism was not overlooked because nowadays we can say that it is a treatable problem. Hypothyroidism is a problem that occurs as a conclusion of a thyroid gland that does not produce enough raw material for the thyroid system to run properly. This will develop classic symptoms.
Even if specialists overlooked it, Wilson Thyroid Syndrome is a problem that is wanted to be solved. For its patients, specialists give T4 as a remedy. It does not help very much.
