Why Blogs Equal Traffic
Jeff Spires
Blogging began in the latter part of the 1990s when users started commenting on existing pages of a web site. It was a tool for visitors to the site who wanted to voice an opinion on the particular web site. What was once a comment in the form of a single sentence or two has now developed into numerous personal entries on page, or pages depending on the length and age of the blog, talking about practically everything and anything. As the world of blogging evolves, advertisers have realised the potential value of an online blog.
1. Blogging is easy.
It doesn’t take a techie to get your message across on the internet. The only skill a blogger needs is the ability to type and read, and perhaps the occasional click of a mouse. Blogging is basically an online version of a journal. You can scribble your thoughts, ideas and experiences on a virtual notepad for the purpose of enticing readers to try the product or service for themselves. By utilising your internet connection and a PC, you can unleash the power of blogs and online advertising.
2. Blogging is reliable.
In a world where advertising may not be as credible as the advertisers would have us believe, the power of blogs have allowed real-life experiences and testimonials to bring forward a new kind of credibility. The tried and tested approach is displayed at its best on blogs as writers share their experience of a product, whether positive or negative. Readers are able to draw their own conclusions based on the thoughts and recommendations of bloggers across the world.
3. Blogging costs nothing.
Blogging has not yet been measured as an online advertising tool for the mainstream media, and so far has been utilised as an additional marketing resource. Free web time is highly desirable for new businesses and with the large offering of free sites it is easy to increase visibility over the internet. It goes without saying that paid blogs have the ability to increase income for thriving businesses.
4. Blogging is good for your reputation.
Readers will begin to rely on your experiences of a product as you become and more and more adept in your bloggging.  You might be considered an expert of certain subjects, subsequently inviting more visitors your blog and potentially more links to other bloggers web sites. Your growth won’t go unnoticed as organisations begin to notice your popularity on the internet. You may soon find that these companies are willing to pay to advertise on your web site. You might even be invited to be an affiliate which would pay you for each and every referral that is generated through your web site.
5. Blogging increases your market.
The likelihood of increasing your blog’s popularity is severely restricted if you only rely on word-of-mouth, expecting friends and relatives to spread the word on your behalf. Unless you’re a celebrity, there is very little reason an internet user might visit the blog on your web site. You should utilise all of the following tools to increase your readership through blogging:
- E-mail.
Whilst e-mails have served their purpose for the use of communicating, many users do not want to log into their mail server and download e-emails one-by-one. In an ever-increasing age of quick access, the speed and delivery of a single blog site is preferred over e-mail. Try sending a short teaser e-mail to your recipients inviting them to click on to your blog. Remember that if the e-mail is generally talking about a different subject matter you need to offer a link to your blog so that you can start increasing the number of visitors to your site.
-Subscriptions.
By inviting regular visitors to your blog to subscribe to the site, you are gaining valuable e-mail addresses for potential future promotions and activity. It is important to protect the e-mail address of your users to ensure you are not seen as a spammer, ultimately resulting in bad comments on your web site. You should ensure that some subscriber-only information is kept available for only your subscribers in order to assure a benefit of signing up to the web site.
-Understand your audience.
Add a feedback section asking visitors to site to comment on their experience of navigating and reading your blog. By conducting a simple survey of your core readers, you will understand their preferences for products and services which can potentially increase advertising value. Online feedback surveys are a great, non-intrusive method of understanding your audience.
- Link up with other bloggers.
Linked blogs offer convenience to readers who are able to review several blogs covering a single subject in just a few easy clicks. Join forces with bloggers who offer similar information as your own blog, thus allowing readers the opportunity to remain within, and refer to your blog network as a reliable source of information. Blogs are always more powerful in numbers.
- RSS.
Often thought of as the fastest growing technology on the internet today, RSS can be added to your blog to offer regular feeds to your visitors. You can add a number of different feeds to the blog site to offer a variety of interests for your readers.
See how much the internet has evolved through blogging, and watch your business increase as you successfully utilise blogs as a tool for internet marketing.
