Storage Devices

By: Jesse Miller

A computer is basically made of a processor, some random access memory and a hard disk device that is capable of storing data. We are going to talk about these storage devices and how many types there are.

To start at the beginning, we can safely say that the first hard disk drive was too small to be taken into consideration. Only after a couple of years hard disks have started to gain in storage space and from that moment on, the need for more space, has increased exponentially.

Along with the apparition of Windows, the development of hard disks has gained terrain because there was a need for files to be stored. Because the more file you had the more space you needed, that was when companies decided to incest in the increased capacity of hard disks. They figured that people will be in need of more files and thus there will require additional space on their hard disks.

The best way to have more space is by buying an extra hard disk ir replacing the old one. Nowadays, we have hard disks with up to 360 GB capacity, which is more than enough for the average user. There are other kinds of devices that store information such as cards and or pen drives.

These offer a smaller amount of space, but the result is the same; store data. Hard disk drives have started to be smaller in size but their capacity keeps increasing. There is no reason to assume that once they are smaller they will also have a reduced amount of space. In fact, they can be smaller but have more storage space that the previous model. Technology keeps evolving at a rapid rate and all we have to do is try to keep up with it.
