Finding the Relocation Services you Need

By: Brandon Kierney

Because of the increased demand, we've seen a proportional increase in the number of companies offering relocation services. Not all companies, however, are made the same. The services that each company can offer vary, so the moving quotes or the results that you get from one company could be quite different from the ones you get from the next relocation service provider. This is the reason why you have to first know exactly what you're looking for before you hire relocation movers. Then you'd know how to ask for the things and the service that you need.

Asking the Right Questions

Possibly the best tip you could ever receive to help you get an accurate impression of the services a relocation company can offer is to ask the right questions. Some companies assume that you already know much of the information they'll tell you, while some won't tell you at all unless you ask about them explicitly. This is where knowing what you need in a relocation service comes in handy. There are some basic questions below that you might want to ask the next several prospective relocation companies you'll talk to.

&bullWhat kinds of cargo can you handle? This pertains to the relocation service provider's experience in the industry. The longer they've been in the business, the likelier they are to know how to bring around unusual or valuable cargo like exotic furniture, heirlooms or pets. This also tells you exactly what kind of items you could entrust them with.

&bullWhere are your other branches? Knowing just how large and widespread their business is gives you an idea of their size (and consequently, their credibility), as well as the areas that they can cover.

&bullHow long have you been in the business? Again, this would indicate their experience in the field. It's highly unlikely that the relocation company would survive more than five years if all it got were disgruntled customers.

&bullAre you affiliated with other companies or organizations? Affiliation means that they met the standards of that particular group or company. If you know the affiliated company, it'll tell you something about the moving company's quality standards.

&bullWhat are the terms if I want to...? State your situation and goals (what you want to happen) here. The terms for specific services vary widely from one relocation company to another, so it's good that you get things like these cleared up before you make any choices.

Know What Relocation Services You Need

Again, this point cannot be stressed enough. Before you can go out and look for relocation movers, you have to know just how much help and what kind of help you need. Do you need someone to lift your stuff? Do you need someone to operate the truck? Do you need movers to unload your stuff for you? Knowing things like these will clarify the situation for both you and the movers. This eases the inquiry and canvassing process because you're fairly sure that the moving quote that they'd give you wouldn't be too far off the amount that you'll find on their receipt come moving day. Doing this also ensures that you'll get exactly the relocation services that you need and expect.
