Discovering the real Cyprus

By: Keith Barrett

As we are constantly being told, the modern world is getting smaller. With the ease of air travel, combined with falling prices, it's never been more simple to hop on a plane and take a flight to wherever takes our fancy.

When we take a trip to a location such as Cyprus, it's easy to spend our holiday in our hotel, sitting by the pool, or maybe wandering down to the beach.

In the evenings we can take advantage of the bars and restaurants that spring up around the main coastal resorts. Once there, we can enjoy the hospitality of the local people who work in the establishments.

By doing so, we can begin to appreciate what the Cypriot people are really like.

If we want to find out more about what makes the people tick and about why they are so proud of this island, then it's necessary to leave our comfort zone.

In short, it's time to escape from the hotel complex and look deeper. It's time to discover the real Cyprus.

The real Cyprus isn't about nightclubs, bars and modern hotels. It's about stunning scenery, a wonderful history and a traditional way of life.

Many parts of the island have seen little change for decades. Some would suggest that they are all the better for this fact.

If you take the time to hire a car or jump on a bus then you can start to see some parts of the island that others miss. There is plenty to see inland and yet too few people take the time to experience what the island really has to offer.

By being prepared to be a little different, you can get a lot more from your visit. Rather than simply being a holiday, this can be a real experience.

A visit to Cyprus is certainly to be recommended. Try and make sure that you see more of what the island has to offer.
