PPC Marketing Explained
Mercedes Aspland
As the internet develops more and more people are turning to search engines to marketer their websites. One of the ways you can do this is through a PPC campaign however there are a lot of questions about this. The aim of this article is to give you an overview of what PPC is and how you can use it to market your website.
What is PPC?
Well PPC stands for Pay-Per-Click and it is a form of search engine marketing. The way it works is you can set yourself up with an advert and then you will pay an amount every time someone clicks on your advert and comes to your website. The biggest PPC provider is Google so we will concentrate on looking at that in this article.
When you search on Google you will get 2 sets of results. Those on the left hand side that are free, organic results and those on the right hand side that are sponsored results. Basically the sponsored results are the Google PPC adverts.
How Google PPC works?
In order to use Google PPC you will need to set yourself up an AdWords account. You will then be able to start your campaign. Google allows you to write your advert and set your URL that will be displayed. In addition to that you will be able to set a maximum daily budget as well as the keywords that you want your advert to appear for. This means you know where your advert will show and that you will be able to afford your campaign.
How to get the most out of your Campaign?
In order to have a successful PPC campaign you need to make sure that you are getting the maximum benefit from it. The first thing you will need to do is decide what you budget for your campaign is, this means considering how much profit you make out of each sale. This will help you to determine how much you need to pay for each click. For example, suppose you make an average of £10 profit from each sale and it takes 10 clicks on your advert for you to make a sale. So if you are paying £1 per click you will be breaking even, this means you should be looking to spend less than £1 per click in order to make a profit.
In addition you will also need to do some keyword research before you start. It is important to pick keywords that people will use when they want to buy. We would also recommend having more than one campaign each with 5-6 search terms in them. You will then be able to target your advert in order to get a high click through rate.
Monitoring your Campaign
Once you have set up your campaign you will need to monitor it and check your click through rate and conversion rate. This will show you search terms you can drop and those you can ramp up in order to make the biggest profit.
It is important to remember that you can have a very successful PPC campaign however it is not a do and leave process. You need to continually check up on it and make sure it is working for you and adapt it to get the most out of it. By doing this you can increase your sales and your customer base and so grow your business.
