Cataract surgery is when doctors remove the old clouded lens from inside the eye and normally replace it with a new plastic one. The word 'phaco' is a word used in medicine to refer to the lens inside the eye. It is combined with other words such as 'phacoemulsification' which means removing the lens from the eye.

Taking supplements before a cataract appears may postpone its development or prevent it altogether. In the early stages of a cataract, supplements may slow its growth. Only surgery will remove a cataract, however. Copper and maganese are important for proper healing and retarding the growth of cateracts.

Glaucoma and cataracts are typically unrelated. Glaucoma is a disease that affects your optic nerve, while cataracts are an age-related clouding of the lens inside your eye. The only treatment for cataract is to have it removed by a surgeon. As in any surgical procedure, a small element of risk exists. There are not any home remedies for cataracts, there is a homoeopathic eye drop on the market that states it can lessen the symptoms of cataracts, these should generally be avoided as they usually work by partially dilating the eye allowing you to see around the plaque like material, these only work on limited types of cataracts and can be potentially dangerous, if the person has narrow angle glaucoma it can actually cause angle closure which can blind a person in days if not hours.

When you put your drops in that eye, if it says you should shake the bottle first, do it. You might face the ceiling with your face or lay down, pull the lower lid down a little which forms a sac between the eyeball and the lid. Drop the drop into that sac. It may cause you to have a startle reaction and want to squeeze. If you do squeeze, don't let go of that lower lid yet.

These are things that help prevent cataracts and help heal to some extent. But there does not seem to be any thing short of surgery to correct it completely.
