Great Plains Dynamics GP Consultant: Data Conversion

By: Andrew Karasev

If you are mid-size or large enterprise, you should consider having Microsoft SQL Server DBA in staff, however certain data repair routines might be too complex and dependent on the GP tables and data flow architecture, where you will need GP technical consultant to do the job.? In this small publication we would like to review data management techniques and the most convenient ways to do these jobs:

1.?????? Great Plains Tables.? This information is pretty open and you can install GP SDK from CD #2, plus you can quickly review GP tables, forms and fields in Tools->Resource Description->Tables, fields and forms respectively.? Feel free to make your discovery, however as GP is midmarket Corporate ERP, you should expect that data flow is not apparent and needs special training and preferable to have this work subcontracted

2.?????? GP Integration Manager.? There is an option to purchase this data integration tools just for initial data migration.? IM allows you to populate GP objects from your export text files (assuming that you can export your legacy accounting data from Peachtree, MYOB, Quickbooks, Accpac, Quicken )

3.?????? Migrating from Great Plains on Pervasive SQL or Ctree.? Yes, there is migration tool, available for earlier versions (GP 7.5), so you should check with us on upgrade path

4.?????? Migrating from Great Plains Accounting (GPA) for Windows and DOS.? If you are on GPA 9.5, 9.2 or earlier version, we should be able to support you and what is more important to help you walk away from these legacy accounting applications to Microsoft Dynamics GP

5.?????? Historical Data Conversion & Migration.? We do not recommend that, try to use the approach when you keep old system on one of your computers just for data lookup.? If you think you still want to pursue historical data migration, please call us for the details and precise quote
