After saying this, I feel a little silly because all the big companies that have worked hard to provide us with the best detection software, get none of the attention. Still, we have to admit that there was licensed software before freeware. The idea of having programs that are free started when companies started to share the source code thus giving away trade secrets.

Spyware software was developed as a response to a growing threat from malicious programs that threatened the computers of all users online. Data and all kinds of files wore no longer safe and so detection and removal software was born. After a while, when things settled down, some coders got their hands on the code behind these tools and started to make their own programs. Why pay money when gave it away for free, especially if they both did the same thing, guaranteeing the same results. No one got mad and people started downloading free spyware detection software thus no need for licensed software except when the occasional new, undetectable version of some spyware is loose.
