Dish Network HdTV | Advanced TV Technology

By: Julia Hall

When you think about HDTV technology you probably think about enormous television sets with movie theater like screens and highly sophisticated sound systems that combine to make you feel like the action is going on all around you. That, of course, is the end goal and purpose of high definition television technology, but high definition television receivers are equally impressive from a technological point of view.

So why are high def receivers so important. In short, they're important because they are necessary to receive and decode high definition television programming, but in general they aren't built into the actual high definition television sets themselves. This may seem like a serious omission on the part of the manufacturers, but in actuality not including them was a calculated move on the part of the manufacturers. The reasoning is that there are basically three major sources of high definition television programming. HDTV programming can come over the air in the form of local stations that broadcast in high def, over cables from cable TV providers, or from satellite signals from satellite TV providers. While any receiver that can process over the air signals will do for local over the air HDTV programming, since most people get their TV from satellite or cable TV providers who would provide their own receivers (which are specifically designed to decode their programming) anyway, the manufacturers consciously decided not to build the receivers into the sets.

Therefore, what kind of high definition television receiver you get will largely be determined by which television service provider you decide to go with. That said, Dish Network is a good choice for high def programming because not only does it provide more channels of high definition television, but also throws in a high definition satellite receiver for free.

Right now Dish Network offers two high definition satellite receivers that will cover the needs of just about any high definition television viewer. Both are packed with plenty of user friendly technological features that will make watching TV of any format relaxing and enjoyable. The basic model is the ViP211. The ViP211 has all of the interactive features you would expect to find on any Dish Network satellite receiver. These include the Dish Interactive Electronic Program Guide which will make it easy to figure out what you want to watch among the hundreds of channels you'll have access to. It also has Parental Control Locks which will allow you to set up safeguards so that you can let your children watch TV unsupervised without worrying about what kind of programming they may stumble upon. In addition, the ViP211 can handle high definition television programming, standard definition television programming, and enhanced definition television.

The ViP622 DVR is the advanced model, that comes enabled with the ability to send a second television signal to a second TV and record both standard and high definition television programming on its internal hard disk. The digital video recording feature on this model is the real attraction. It can record up to two hundred hours of normal standard definition programming or up to thirty hours of HDTV programming. Either way, you'll have a much greater level of control over how and when you watch TV.

Both of these HDTV satellite receivers from Dish Network contain very impressive technology and will serve their owners well and compliment the more obvious parts of the home entertainment system.
