New Horizons in IT Training

By: Potalia M.R

The New Horizons is relatively a new player in the information technology (IT) training sector in India. The US-based organisation claims to be the world's largest IT-training provider and believes that inspite of the IT slump, the sector has much more to offer. Education Times speaks to Ajay Kumar Sharma, president, New Horizons, India on his opinion about the education in the country and what more needs to be done to make our youngsters productive citizens of society.

Education in India
The education offered in our country is absolutely top class. The whole education system gets the credit for India being termed as the hub of intellectuals, internationally. However, there are certain changes we need to incorporate in our system. Our education system puts enormous pressure on a child and there is too much of competition. Rather than ensuring that a student understands the concepts, our system places more emphasis on clearing an exam.

Non-formal education
Non-formal education providers actually supplement the formal education system by providing cutting-edge skills. For example, an engineering student acquires knowledge during his course of study but when it comes to applying skills in an organisation he either learns it on the job or can acquire it before opting for a job at a training provider like us. Someone who has the right knowledge as well as the required skills before taking up a vacancy is going to be a winner in his career.

Challenges for education providers
India as a country has the potential to lead the world, even economically. We could not capitalise on the agricultural revolution, then the industrial revolution and now it is the time for the intellectual revolution. We need to create people who are adaptable to the global changes and practices, and are skilful enough to work internationally. Whatever skills are required to enable them to move up in the value chain should be incorporated in both formal and non-formal education system. This would further make Indians more desirable internationally.

IT sector
Both IT training providers as well as corporates hold this conviction that IT is going to further offer one of the best careers. It still hasn't penetrated into our lives properly. The slowdown is just a passing phenomenon. The best in IT is not behind but ahead. IT is going to unleash new areas of career opportunities in security, ERP, CRM, hardware maintenance and networking.

New Horizons
Today, the market demand is for global citizens and the New Horizons brings in global vision in IT training. We offer high quality, high technology training to students with a customer-centric attitude, which implies that we offer customised courses to our students based on their needs and demands.
