A normal video security system can be of use in the household and at business premises and be capable of recording the movements of anyone within those areas. Therefore the video cameras can be effective deterants as well as being used as evidence which can be played back if the premises are ever broken into.

A standard ADT household security system will normally be composed of certain pieces of equipment. The monitor will be utilized to show images that have been recorded by the security cameras connected to it either using wires or wirelessly.

Note that a security monitor will have a much better screen resolution than a usual home television. Cameras will need to be placed at various locations around the home so that any possible entrance points or weak spots can be monitored for intruders.

It may not be needed in most homes, but think about whether you will need a system that uses hard wires or a wireless network. If you decide to use a wireless network then you will pay a little more money but it will be a lot more convenient to install the cameras around the house. Obviously there are no problems with fitting wires around the current furniture.

The central component in the ADT security system is the coaxial cable which will contain the video images that have been recorded, these images will be transmitted by the cable to the monitor. A switcher will connect together two or more cameras to this central monitor. Also available are slightly more advanced systems which let you connect an alarm into the system too.
