While many people might advise you to leave past relationships alone, it can be difficult if you still care for each other, especially when you seen others making up over far more serious problems that the reasons that you broke up.
This begs the question: is getting back with your ex a good idea or should you accept the situation and find love somewhere else?
To decide on the answer you need to first determine the reasons that broke the two of you up. Relationships break down over hundreds of different reasons and not all of them can be mended. If it is likely that the reason that you broke up will still exist if you got back together then perhaps it is time to look elsewhere.
If you are willing to change or make an effort to fix your relationship problems (assuming of course that you need to - relationships are a two-way street) then it is possible that you could get back together and be happy together.
There is still a chance that you can both be happy together if you both still do love each other. Of course often it can be difficult to determine if your ex does still love you as you have both probably said hurtful things to each other, so this is where you should trust your instincts. Even if they say that they no longer love you, do they really mean it or are they just trying to hurt you because they are hurting themselves?
If you can, try and step back and look at the situation objectively to see how you both act together now. In can even be a good idea to ask the advice of a good friend who is more impartial and less emotionally involved if you don't trust your own instincts.
The first steps that you take in trying to mend a broken relationship can be important in determining your success so it is important to try and keep a level head.
