I went to galley by the straits with my family. We love the nice relaxing ambience. It is open air and as you eat, you can feel the gentle sea breeze against your face. We ordered a couple of dishes like their curry fish head, butter crab, kang kong with belachan, sizzling beancurd with minced chicken and crispy prawns with oats. It was so filling. The curry fish head was so delicious, the fish was very fresh and smooth. the curry gravy was not very spicy but very thick. The crab was huge and juicy. the kang kong is very crunchy and the belachan gives it a special taste. so satisfied!
My family dined at Galley by the Straits for the first time and we decided to all have the lime juice. The lime juice was very yellowish and looked very concentrated unlike many lime juices out there. The juice indeed had a strong lime flavour but it was not overwhelmingly sour. It is also pretty sweet. Perfect for quenching thirst but those who really dislike sour drinks may not like it.
I was pretty interested when I saw the word "lamb" in the menu so we decided to order this lamb dish. I was told it is not real lamb meat but I\'ve never had lamb meat before so I can\'t tell. It was my first time trying fake lamb meat and I have to say, it does not taste much different from pork. There was no distinct taste in the lamb meat to show that it is different from regular pork.
However, it was very tender and moist and goes well with the sauce, which is pretty salty. The vegetables give the overall dish a good fresh vegetable smell, making it hard to get sick of the dish. I\'ll recommend this dish!
I eat toufu regularly and will always order for toufu when I see one. Although I\'m not a big fan of fried toufu, I decided to give it a try. The fried toufu\'s outer layer was very crispy and pretty flakey. The toufu is more of the firm kind and was not all that soft. It is best to eat the fried toufu with the sauce given b/c its pretty tasteless if you eat it without the sauce. It\'d be like eating tasteless toufu with oily skin. The sauce is pretty sweet and should give a decent amount of flavouring to the toufu.
Do take note that its a pretty big serving so it won\'t be wise to order one whole plate of fried toufu for only 1 person.
My family loves cockles so we ordered the fried cockles at Galley by the Straits. The cockles were surprisingly fresh and very well-fried. The sauce they used to fry it is perfect for cockles. The sauce is sweet and a little salty. Only bad thing is that it is actually a pretty small serving. Although it does look like we got a decent amount of cockles, it wasn\'t as much as we thought it\'d be. Even though so, it was delicious and I\'d say it was worth the money!
I\'m not too sure what this vegetable is called but it was delicious. It was well-fried and the vegetable was actually very juicy. I could just eat it like noodles. It had a hint of spiciness and saltiness because of the sauce. It is very tasty and inexpensive. I\'d totally recommend it! Do share it though. The serving is pretty big.
My family decided to order the fried half chicken. When it was served I was pretty disappointed because the skin did look wrinkled and dry. As expected, the chicken is pretty dry but thankfully it was relatively oily, so it wasn\'t too hard to swallow it. Although the taste wasn\'t that good, the chicken did have a very nice fried chicken smell. I wouldn\'t recommend it but if you\'re looking for a simple dish, you can consider ordering the fried chicken!
This is secluded in one corner in Sembawang, its better to take a cab in/ride a bike or walk.
Love the crab over here! It\'s for an insanely cheap price(sorry but I can\'t remember how much is it exactly, I think about 20+, 30??) and the meat is succulent, fresh and infuses very well with the black pepper!!
A definite must try. Also, it is very very quiet over there.. My family is the only customer throughout the entire night there so I suggest NOT going alone.. >_>
