Panic Disorders in Children

By: Bob Bastian

A panic disorder is something that can be found in many different people of all ages. Having a child that is dealing with a panic disorder is not unusual. It will be very different in younger people than in adults. Children will tend to report the actual symptoms that they are feeling in their body rather than the emotional problems. Children that are in a panic attack may appear to be upset or scared with no explanation at all. This is going to be confusing to most people.

Children are not able to completely understand what is happening to them all the time. They are not sure what the problem is with their mind and body. Children will be very worried and confused at most times. It is up to the parents to watch their children closely and notice any problems that may be starting with them. Knowing what your child is going through is something that you need to do. You have to be sympathetic to your child's condition and understand what they need from you and if they should see a doctor.

If a panic disorder is left untreated in a child, it may bring a lot more problems to the child once they hit their adult years. There may be more feelings setting in and a child may never be able to recover from them completely. Having the ability to notice these problems from the start is going to be a great help and will get the child ready for later on down the road. A panic disorder can lead to many other problems for a child and give them feelings of destruction and anxiety for just about any reason.

Sometimes a child will have a panic disorder when they are around others. Other children may worry them and being around too many at one time may not be a good idea. A child can become overwhelmed and worried when they are in this type of situation. A child may go into a panic disorder when they are faced with fear in any type of situation. Getting child help is something that will be a big factor in getting a child under control when they are dealing with panic.

Usually children that get treatment for a panic disorder will not have to deal with the problems all of their life. With the right help when they are younger, they will not have the fear not all of their life and the panic will be an issue for their adult life. Taking care of the situation in the beginning is going to be the best way to deal with a panic disorder at any age.
