LG has been making 3G phones for quite a long time now, but not really been able to cast a great impression on us. But with LG U880, seems like the prejudice will finally be broken. The handset is stylish and feature packed with great functionalities, to provide a real mobile experience to its users.
No denying that the biggest improvement in LG U880 is its size and form factor. Unlike the previously chunky mobiles by LG, the LG U880 comes in noticeably smaller and thinner shape to be a bit like a style in the pocket. Moreover, the black finish look with chrome highlight not only makes the phone look elegant, but also makes it look extremely well built. The U880 weighs just 102 grams and is also the first 3G LG model to have the antenna integrated into the phone. Despite the small size, the LG U880 has managed to squeeze quite a lot into the exterior. It has a proprietary headphone jack and volume controls on the left hand side, a dedicated camera button, TransFlash slot and a well hidden charger/USB socket on the right. When flipped open, the LG U880 comes with user-friendly keypad, bright display, and a rotating 1.3 megapixel camera lens. Displaying 262,144 colours, the 176x220 pixel screen, the screen is quite satisfactory, specially when viewing pictures and videos.
Talking about pictures, the LG U880comes with a camera mounted on a rotating hinge. This means the camera can be used for both photography and video calling. Camera settings include sizes ranging from 1280x960 to 96x96, 2x digital zoom, a self timer, exposure settings and white balance. There is no flash, but the option for night mode exists. Other features of LG U880 includes - Bluetooth and USB connectivity, host of polyphonic ring tones, a handsfree speaker-phone, a 500 contact phone book, messaging services (SMS, MMS and e-mail), WAP 2.0, Java games and microSD slot.
Thus,LG U880 is an entry level 3G phone, that is empowered to do all the multimedia basics. The altered size will go down well, however a firmware upgrade would be more welcomed.
