Serious Eye Problems

By: teahupoo
Throughout the country there are millions of people who are constantly suffering with vision problems. Some of these individuals are acutely aware of their vision problems and will seek out the proper care. Other individuals just think that their vision problems are caused by eye strain and that if they relax more when they read, then their vision will not get blurry.

Many people experience vision problems, eyestrain, or even blurred vision. When their sight is corrected, they see what they have missed. Before that time they were unable to see well enough to know the difference and to realize what they could not see. Once a person adjusts to corrective lens they have discomfort when they do not wear their glasses. While they were seeing poorly without glasses, they did not know that there was more to see. They could not know what they were missing. Their brain had nothing to compare for the difference. Once fitted with corrective lens, they found a change. They needed to wear their glasses or they would have a fuzzy world once again. What a joy when the vision is corrected, sight clear.

Every person must monitor their own eyes with care so they will know if they need corrective lenses, or medical treatment. Headaches from excessive reading, reading in the dark, or staring at a television or computer screen for long periods of time have nothing to do with eye sight; rather, they are caused by muscle strain. Cataracts are a disease of the eyes and are not corrected by eyewear. They require medical treatment. Wearing corrective eyewear, with an appropriate prescription, will help you to see comfortably without strain. Contact lenses eliminate the obvious appearance of wearing glasses while they can offer the same correction as framed glasses with lenses.

Glaucoma is a silent stealer of sight. Many people do not know they have it until their yearly eye exam. There are no warnings or symptoms to detect glaucoma. The only way to know is through an eye exam, a particular test for glaucoma. Everyone is at risk for glaucoma, as they age. African Americans have a higher risk factor. If glaucoma is caught early, it can be treated and the sight of the person can be preserved. Everyone must have a yearly test for glaucoma so that risk is balanced by prevention.

There are at least four ways to treat vision disorders and /or diseases: corrective lenses, medications, surgery, and vision therapy. The treatment selected will depend on the cause of the vision problem, and what it is affecting. Vision therapy has been know to help some disorders: eye focusing issues, binocular vision, ocular motility dysfunction affecting eye movements, a turned eye, a lazy eye, and perceptual motor dysfunction. This treatment can help with controlling the eyes and improving function and vision over time. Visual skills visual therapy is designed for eye focusing, eye coordination and teaming, eye movement, and eye hand coordination. These therapies are for any age group of people who want to improve their vision. Every person has the duty to care for your eyes and ensure their vision is good.
