How to Get There
The major deterrent to a Puncak trip is traffic – it can take more than three hours if you leave at the wrong time. The best time to leave is late at night on Friday or super early on Saturday. On Saturday morning, the massive outflow into the area is exacerbated by the jam of downward traffic on Saturday morning. However, the homeward journey to Jakarta is facilitated by a one-way downward flow on Sunday afternoon. On the way home, especially if you’re far out, plan several stops along the way.
- From Jakarta , head south on the Jagorawi Toll Road towards Ciawi and Bogor . From the areas of Pondok Indah, Kemang, Cilandak and the surrounding areas, hop on the Jakarta ring road and head east. Watch out for the signs to Bogor and Ciawi, and follow them to the Jagorawi expressway.
- You will pass Sentul and a rest point on the left with standard Indonesian toilets. Follow the toll road towards Ciawi, and after the Bogor exit, keep a look out for the Puncak turnoff.
- If you find yourself in intense traffic, use ‘jalan tikus’ (short cut) to navigate the alternate routes.
- Another option is, when chauffeured, to get off at Sentul and take a motorcycle or 4wd (four-wheel drive) trip through the villages and have your car and luggage meet you at your weekend residence. Otherwise when you come to the red light after turning off the Jagorawi tollbooth for Puncak, before the road heads up a steep hill, set your kilometer marker on your car to zero to follow our checkpoints.
We would recommend that you either hire a driver to bring you up to Puncak or make arrangements with United Adventures to organise a trip for you.
