How To Lose Weight Through Exercise
Heather Warwick
Though you may not initially believe it, the truth of the matter is that visualization can cure a lot of ills, and weight loss is just one major thing that it can take on! Consider the fact that your brain is very powerful and when you have an image of your body in mind, your brain will work to subconsciously get you there. You'll find that with visualization on your site, you are going to be able to have a much healthier attitude about exercise and food and that it is going to be much easier for you to get your goals met.
When you are looking to use visualization for weight loss, you'll discover that you are far from alone. There are many psychologists who, while they do not know how this concept works, will still recommend it to their patients. The mind and the body are not nearly as divorced as we think, and when you exert control over one, you are going to find that you can exert control over the other. Just keep a clear picture in your mind of what you want to do and what you want your body to look like. Picture yourself being more fit and more healthy and fend off mental detours that are going to stop you from getting where you want to be. It really is as easy as that.
Many people who are overweight believe they cannot lose weight. Sometimes you may say it out loud, or hear friends say it about themselves. For other people this belief stays in the subconscious. But it is sure that it influences our behavior. Someone who believes it is impossible for her to achieve weight loss will be constantly battling her own negativity when she is trying to diet. Her mind will be constantly telling her there is no point dieting, she cannot lose weight so she should just go ahead and eat everything she wants. Visualization is the strongest technique that we can use to overcome these negative thoughts and impulses.
Whether your negativity comes from your friends, your family or the media, you need to think about what you can do to fight it. Consider what you will look like when it comes to getting down to your goal weight and use it to push the negative thoughts away. Clearing your head is extremely important.
When you wake up in the morning and again at night, and whenever you have a spare moment to yourself, you need to be able to visualize your own goals. Choose a quiet spot somewhere and go off inside your head. Think about your body at its recommended weight and it helps to have some visual assistance when you do this. Look for a on old picture of yourself at the right weight or pull out a picture from a magazine and paste your own face onto it. Sometimes, just a visual representation can give you the push to get the results that you are after.
You can also visualize from the inside. Close your eyes and let your awareness focus on a part of your body - for example, your right thigh. Imagine it slowly becoming thinner in your mind's eye. Then move to the other thigh, and on through the body. It may help to start at the feet and move up towards the head, or vice versa. It's just very important to visualize it as though the weight loss has already happened.
As you go through your day, simply picture your body already being at your preferred weight. This is where you come up with your own unique health affirming statements. Think about saying things like "I am happy that I look so good," or "I am happy that my body is so flexible and fit." Consider what self image you need to get where you want to be, and remember this is something that is ultimately helping you lose weight. Take some time and really consider how having the right kind of visualization behind you is going to help. Once you get your brain in gear, you don't need to worry about always wanting to eat foods loaded with fat; you'll soon realize those foods have lost their appeal.
Remember that visualization is a tool you can use to help you get the start you need when it comes to losing weight and getting healthier. This could be the breakthrough you need to end that plateau or lose those last few pounds.
