Nightmare Before Christmas Theme
Cathleen Paul
There is something that is so traditional about having a touch of country in your Christmas. Even if you were not raised in the traditional country way, an old fashioned country Christmas can really make things cozy over the holidays.
Decorating your home with a touch of country can be fun. There are many creative ways to bring a little country to your home this Christmas without breaking your budget. It is also a great way to get the children involved in the festivities.
One thing you will notice about a home decorated country is that it is very warm and inviting. You will also want to make sure that you are bringing that feeling into each and every detail in your house.
Some great ideas are to first start out with handmade decorations for your tree. Something as simple as a few ornaments cut out of felt and plaid hung on the tree will make a warm and welcoming statement to anyone that sees them.
Have the kids help you cut out the decorations. Use pinking sheers for some of them, which will give them a cute zigzag edge. In country decorating things don't have to be perfect and the little imperfections will just add to the charm.
String cranberries and popcorn on dental floss for an old fashioned garland for your country Christmas tree. Be sure to use a popcorn popper so you can have oil free popcorn. After the holidays you can even put the garland outside for a treat for your furry friends. Just be sure to throw out the dental floss when it is empty. Check online for more detailed instructions and safety tips.
Do you have a pretty Christmas quilt? Why keep it hidden in a bedroom where nobody will see it? Don't hide it away in the bedroom. Instead drape it over a couch or a chair and use as a festive throw.
If you are throwing a country Christmas party then invitations are absolutely essential. What better way to set the theme of a country Christmas then to make your own invitations? You can start out with blank Christmas cards or you can make your own by folding construction paper in half and pasting cut out pictures. Save this years Christmas cards and use them for making beautiful invitations next year!
There are so many fun ways to decorate your home and give it an old fashioned country feel. Just remember safety first, keep your tree well watered and keep candles away from flammables such as decorations as well as small children and pets. Above all let the start of a new tradition for the whole family to remember!
