Good old style Ipoh Ho Fun. Best to come during the weekend, lesser CBD crowd.
This funan ipoh hor fun was delicious even though i ate it a few hours after it was packed! the prawns were not that fresh but the mushrooms were juicy and the chicken strips were tender and it gives a sweet after-taste in your mouth, i believe it\'s because the chicken has been marinated thoroughly.the sauce was sweet and sticky but not in a gruelling way, it was a portion just enough to last me through for dinner
I must admit that this hor fun is certainly value for money in terms of the outstanding quality of hor fun as well as the generous variety of ingredients. However, as I am not a fan of sea cucumber, I would have given it a higher rating if it had come with other ingredients such as sotong, fish, chicken, lean meat and pig\'s liver. Nevertheless having this sumptuous signature hor fun is indeed a wholesome dining experience. Come down to Toa Payoh and try it for yourself.
I am a really big fan of their ho fun. I started eating when they got a stall at Ghim Moh food centre very years ago. I remembered queuing up for it and waited for quite long to order their ho fun. I am really happy to locate them. The ho fun tasted the same but more expensive now. I ordered their signature ho fun that came with chicken and prawn in tasty sauce. I will come back for more.
Sets a @ just $8.80!
The hor fun tasted good, quite similar to the ipoh hor fun i had previously at malaysia Ipoh. The hor fun is smooth, not too overcooked and massy. It still retain the biting texture in it. The gravy sauce goes really well with the hor fun. When eaten together, it taste extremely tasty and smooth. Glides through your throat. But the ingredients given were quite little. But i like the braised mushroom. Taste really tender and flavourful.
I went to the food fair at Suntec mall on Sunday and stopped by Wengs food stall on seeing their dumplings and immediately decided to try them out. The dumplings were of prawn and pork, served with some flat noodles, topped with some yummy sauce. The best thing is we bought 1 bowl for 3 SGD & got 1 bowl free :-). Funan Weng Ipoh Ho Fun\'s dumplings are the best I\'ve ever eaten.Spending: Approximately SGD 3
Although Funan Weng Ipoh Ho Fun has been around for more than 50 yrs, i never had a chance to try it until now. Since funan Weng is known for it Ho Fun and dumpling soup, I order a plate of crayfish and prawns hor fun and a bowl of dumpling soup. The hor fun is very smooth and the sauce is very tasty. The dumplings taste very fresh and the soup is also very nice
Funan Weng Ipoh Ho Fun has a long history all the way from the 1950s. They used to be located at the Hock Lam Street where the Funan IT Mall is currently located and then to the food court in the Mall. They moved to Ghim Moh Food Centre in 1993 when the shopping centre underwent a major renovation. And now, Funan Weng Ipoh Ho Fun is in the good hands of their third generation.
It is a rekindled with an old love when i found out that Funan Weng Ipoh Ho Fun used to be at Ghim Moh Food Centre. I used to work and stay in that area and their Ipoh Ho Fun was one of my favorite foods in that food centre. I still remember queuing up to order it and the forever long queue during lunch.
I chatted with the Mr Ho Junior over the service counter when paying up for our foods. He asked, \'So, how was the foods?\' I told him that i remember eating my favorite ipoh ho fun during those days at Ghim Moh Food Centre. He said, \'Then, you probably recognize my mum and you must be glad to have found us again.\' He asked further, \'How is the standard now compared to those days?\'
I was being honest when i told Mr Ho that the food standard is still as good but the pricing is a lot more expensive but well, it is definitely worth the every cent as the ingredients like the crayfish and prawns tasted really fresh. I can taste the amount of efforts put in when preparing the foods. I suppose that is one of the deterrents to get the customers to keep coming back.
After seated, we were presented with the menu and the stack of order chits. We were expected to fill in the order chit then bring it to the Service Counter. And then to help ourselves with the condiments like the green cut chillies and the chilli sauce as well as the chopsticks and spoons at the service station.
I ordered their signature Prawn with Chicken Ipoh Ho Fun, Crayfish and Prawn Ipoh Ho Fun, a bowl of Wanton Soup and a Luo Han Longan drink. A good portion of soft and smooth thin version of kway teow with shredded Chicken and Crayfish for others, along with a few pieces of medium sized Prawns together with veggie. Their savory secret recipe black sauce enhanced the taste of the dish wonderfully.
There were a total of 10 wantons floating in the tasty Wanton Soup with veggie. Each wanton consists of a thin layer of wanton skin and its generous filling.
It was a satisfying lunch in a cosy ambience.Spending: Approximately SGD 8.50
It has cosy ambience atmosphere and I enjoyed their Ipoh Hor Fun and gourmet Dumpling. Ho G3 has done a great job preserving and modernizing his family business. It is heartening to hear stories of next generations preserving food family business.
No msg, low salt and less saturated fats have become their selling key,
Working just opposite Maxwell Chambers, Funan Weng is my absolute favourite place for dinner after work, or a quick bite in between late nights at the office. The CBD is usually closed early, and restaurants that are open are usually very expensive. Otherwise you\'ve have to sit in the hot humid hawker centre. If you want somewhere quiet, with excellent food for an affordable price in comfort of air conditioning, this is the place for you!
And I haven\'t even started raving about the food! Funan Weng has a long history over 3 generations from Hock Lam Street to the old food court above Funan Centre (before it became an IT Mall!). This is why it is called FUNAN Weng after all! To remind us of its very popular times at Funan Centre which my hubby still recalls with fond memories whenever we eat there. The hor fun is slippery and q at the same time, the stock is light but flavourful, just the way we love it! The prawns are halved but huge and the char siew is delectable. The best part is the handmade dumpling (Which they also sell frozen ones for you to bring home!). It is HUGE. There is a whole prawn inside and it\'s juicy and delicious! The beef brisket hor fun is also very delicious! Everything on the menu is worth a try! Haven\'t encountered a bad dish yet!For those of you who are feeling under the weather or the weather is just cold and rainy, I\'d definitely recommend the hor fun soup. It\'s not what we usually think of when we hear "ipoh hor fun" but this is something to be experienced! Of course the dry ipoh hor fun and its yummy sauce is the standard not to be missed. If you worry about getting your outfit dirty, you can even ask for a plastic bib from the staff!Despite it being located in the CBD, it is open on weekends too! In fact, you can bring the whole family as there is actually a play area for kids on weekends! Lots of toys which you can entertain the young ones with! They also recently started a breafkast menu but I\'ve yet to try it.Be warned though, lunch time the crowd can be numerous! But if you go often enough, you\'ll realise they have a different promotion every month! Our favourite is definitely the buy 2 set for the price of 1! So I\'d definitely recommend looking out for their promotions!Spending: Approximately SGD 10
