Microsoft Dynamics GP internal, external support

By: Andrew Karasev

Look at this with the following approach – if you have very old car, you probably can repair it on your own, however if you bought new one, where you don’t know how to deal with computer, fuel injection, plus you don want car warranty not to be compromised – you will probably end up with sticking to car maintenance procedures at your dealership.  The same is GP Dynamics – we as Microsoft certified solution partner have to maintain high standards in delivering solution to you.  Another example would be this – if you decide to be certified scuba diver – you take PADI course, exams, confined and open water dives as required by PADI.  So, Microsoft Dynamics GP implementation, installation, integration, reporting, customization and training should be considered as the area where you need professional consultant assistance.  In this small article we would like to give you basic highlights:

  • Operating Systems.  In the past Great Plains Dynamics was available on Mac and PC platforms, currently, it is available on Microsoft Windows and Vista only.  If you are Macintosh user, you may still use GP if you use Mac Citrix client, this is separate scenario and typically it has limitations
  • DOS OS.  Paying respect to old legacy platforms, we have to tell here, that Dynamics GP and old GPS Dynamics are actually Microsoft Windows and Mac Graphical applications, this means that older OS such MS DOS was using so-called PC text mode and the product from Great Plains Software to deal with this environment was Great Plains Accounting for DOS.  This application is no longer supported and we should help your to migrate to newer MS ERP
  • Dexterity Customizations.  These were popular in 1990th and in earlier 2000.  In around 2003 Microsoft announced discontinuation of Great Plains Source Code program new members enrollment – meaning that newcomers can not get access to DYNAMICS.DIC dictionary with dex sanscript codes in (if you are GP customer your DYNAMICS.DIC has dexterity codes stripped out)
  • Manufacturing.  GP manufacturing is discrete one (not food processing, where it is process manufacturing)
