Fuel Lounge
by: Galuh Wulandarie

Ready… get set… go! It's time to head out to Fuel Lounge; a sleek and trendy lounge right across Bali 's hip hop haven, Mbargo. Far from being competitors, these two establishments cater to different musical crowds. Mbargo dishes out hip hop and R&B tracks while Fuel keeps the energy up with upbeat music like progressive, techno, and trance.

It's easy to find Fuel. If you're staying somewhere in Poppies Lane, it's only a 10 minute-walk away. Better yet, if you come here by cab, just go down at Legian street, where cabs pack the area and honk at every pedestrian in sight. Look to your right, and there you go… that's the Fuel Lounge.

Fuel has two storeys; the first one has a mellow vibe with dim lighting, a black tiled floor, cream leather sofas, and mirrored walls. Walk a little further and find the DJ booth to your right and a spacious dance floor to your left. Go up the second level and embrace its sexy feel; red walls are adorned with several modern art pieces. Diners can try its a la carte dinner. Fuel serves the usual steaks, BBQ, sandwiches, and snacks. But I don't think patrons come for the food; they drop by for the drinks.

I have occasionally hung out at Fuel and thoroughly enjoyed myself each time. What I don't understand is that although Fuel has a steady stream of people coming and going, they never really linger. The vibe is great, they music is wonderful, the drinks are fine, but the people don't stay! While other lounges are packed after midnight, Fuel patrons leave after midnight and spend the rest of the evening at Mbargo; a thought that puzzles me to no end.

The girls are in for a special treat on Wednesdays, as they are entitled to a 50 percent discount for every cocktail they order. I had a nice Lychee Martini while my companion had the Illusion. The drinks gave us quite a kick! We originally planned to stay on until closing time. However, with no crowds in sight, the lounge seemed dull. So after finishing our drinks, we too went to Mbargo.
