Diving In Bali
by: Celestine

Discover the other side of Bali where the sand is black, dry and rocky but the deep blue ocean and the friendly locals more than make up for any romantic sense of loss.

Trapped between heaven and earth, Amed beach consist of villages stretching along the coast from Amed to the eastern tip of Bali called Selat, the place for those who love to uncover what lies beneath the ocean. Fruit plantations on the east side, bright colored fisherman boats on the shore, with that sight of running, endless horizon will definitely calm your body and soul in the deep embrace of Mother Nature. Where else can you enjoy the sunrise on a black sandy beach before taking a dive or snorkel at world-class diving spots, discover the wrecked US Liberty Navy Vessels from World War II, and then still have the stunning view of Gunung Agung to awe over?

Approximately a 1.5 hour drive from the Kuta-Legian area, Amed beach and the East Coast area have grown very fast over the past years. Many good hotels and restaurants are now available to pamper you on your holiday. For instance the “Mimpi Boutique Resort Dive Centers and Spa”, this Bali styled resort is for those dive enthusiasts located at the Tulamben, the northeastern coast of Bali. Alternatively you can try the Hotel Uyah with its unique facilities, which are built to save energy. They use a local-made solar heater, refill water in mineral water bottles to limit the plastic waste. Support the locals who are selling their salts and you can even have an A to Z explanation by the trained friendly staff on traditional salt-making. Everything you want to know about traditional salt-making and more will be imparted to you this easily. Interesting indeed!

If you are still amateurs in Diving or snorkeling, no worries because you can find the oldest dive shop around Amed, called Eco-dive. The well-trained instructors there will teach you from open-water up to dive-master courses in several European languages. Maybe you can even take a sea trip with the Amed Dive Centre. This dive shop can arrange your dive trips down to the Padangbai, Tepekong Island, Menjangan, and Nusa Penida. You will not find luxury here, as this trip is for those rugged sea lovers only.
