You've likely heard the rule which states that 20% of what you do is responsible for 80% of the results you reap. Let's apply this to Internet dating. If the 80/20 rule is in effect, where should you place the 20% effort? (no fair re-reading the title of this post as it will give you an unfair advantage.).

You are correct, that twenty percent effort should be put into your profile, photos and your first email contact They set the mood when you "approach" women online. From this point forward, most of your success will simply come from avoiding silly mis-steps. (I’ll cover that in future posts, no fear).

That was the scholarly message for today. OK, now for the nuts and bolts. Twenty percent effort equals eighty percent return, right? So how's it's done. Let's look into that now. The initial step in the process is to develop and write a great profile including posting some flattering photos of yourself, and then you will be ready to start writing catchy emails.

All of these topics will be dealt with in depth later but for now I will give you basic ideas.

1. If you remember nothing else from my presentation today, let it be this: Make sure your profile revels your PERSONALITY. Girls (and, in reality, everyone) find a match based on personality. Scrutinizing a person's personality is comparable to the canine behavior of butt-sniffing. I know you may think its gross, but it actually has a point. She wants to know who you are and not just what you do. Make sure that you are not just supplying her with a list of what you do and what you like. Let her see a little bit of who you are. Describe the best aspects of your job. Tell us the reasons you have fun doing the activities you love. In essence, you should allow her to smell your butt (looking through the lens of metaphor, naturally)!

2. Make sure your profile has correct spelling and grammar. You could always have someone read it for mistakes or you could use a spelling and grammar checker on it. Clean it up. If you really wanted a job, would you submit a resume full of spelling errors? Here it's the identical deal.

3. Put in the time and effort to get just the right photos to post online. This may cost a pretty penny, but in the end it will pay for itself. So, take the bull by the horns, and just do it!

4. When you are emailing her for the first time give her just a bit of personality. It is a flaw to seem too flattering. If you do, you will come across as trying too hard. However, you do want to stand out from every other man who happens to be writing the exact tiresome email to her. Write something to tantalize her and make her want to write back - a display of humor, sarcasm, or wit.

Alright, does that inspire you with creativity? NO? Well then ... just take an extension cord, cut it in two, plug it in ... and, well, you should know the rest. If that doesn't get you going, then you've come to the wrong person for help.

Warning - It it important to NOT plug in half an extension cord. Even though I know I'm saying the obvious and you're smart enough to know better, I have to say this. That is something you will ABSOLUTELY NOT want to do! All right, the disclaimer has officially ended.
