I think Bonds is the best hitter of all time. He holds so many records that I won't even try to list them all here. It's insane that he wouldn't at least be given a chance to prove he can still hit.
Yes he's 44. In 2007, at age 42, Bonds was among the best hitters in baseball. In fact he lead the entire major leagues in OBP.
I definitely do not believe Bonds is being denied simply because of his age. I have little doubt he could still be an effective hitter this season and that he could improve any team in the big leagues if given a chance.
It's obvious that Bonds has been "black balled" the big league baseball in their attempt to make him into the scape goat for the entire steroids era. This is ludicrous. I do not deny that Bonds used PEDs but I think it's ridiculous that he is being singled out when he was just one of hundreds who did so. It's obvious that most (yes, most) major league players have used performance enhancing drugs at least once.
Why should Bonds be singled out as if he were the only one when he was just one of hundreds? That doesn't make any sense. Is Alex Rodriguez going to be allowed to play this year? Yes. How is he any less "guilty" than Bonds? It is a fact that A-Rod tested positive for steroids, but Bonds has not.
Why would it make any sense for Alex Rodriguez or any of the other players who have had positive steroid tests (and there are hundreds!) should be allowed to play while the greatest hitter of his generation is not allowed to play.
I simply cannot take Major League Baseball seriously until they let Barry Bonds back into the league. Players should be judged on their ability to play. That's it. By taking into account all of these other factors it ceases to be a true sport and becomes something else entirely.
I know that I for one will become a fan of any team that signs Bonds. I will buy their shirts. I will watch their games. I will buy an MLB league pass. I will spend hundreds of dollars to support that team because they will have shown true integrity.
The fans deserve to get to see Barry Bonds hit again in 2009. He's a true legend. Regardless of what you think of his personality, there is no argument by anyone who knows anything about baseball that he is the best hitter of his generation. Such a player should not be sidelined prematurely for political reasons.
Barry Bonds Autographed Baseball
Ben WalkerNew York, U.S. (AP) - As Barry Bonds nears his record 756th home run, he's stockpiling quite a collection of souvenirs _ bats, balls, helmets and spikes, pieces of baseball history perfectly suited for the Hall of Fame.Whether he'll donate any of them to Cooperstown, however, is in doubt. "I'm not worried about the Hall," the San Francisco slugger said during a recent homer drought. "I take care of me." No wonder those at the museum are getting concerned, especially with Bonds only 10 homers shy of breaking Hank Aaron's career mark. "There's uncertainty," Hall vice president Jeff Idelson acknowledged. Around 35,000 artifacts are shown and stored at the shrine, and about a dozen pertain to Bonds. There is a bat from his rookie year and cleats from him becoming the first player in the 400-homer/400-steal club. Unsolicited, he sent the bat and ball from his 2,000th hit. A batting practice bat from the 2002 World Series was the last thing Bonds provided. "Doesn't everybody have the right to decide to do it or not do it?" he said last week. The most prized items, the ones that fans would really want to see, are missing. Nothing directly from Bonds to highlight his 500th home run. Ditto for homers 714 and 715, when he tied and passed Babe Ruth. Same for anything tied to him topping Mark McGwire's single-season total of 70. Hall president Dale Petroskey went to visit Bonds at spring training last year, and instead walked smack into his reality show. The Giants talked to Bonds this year, and hope he'll be in a giving mood as the big moment comes and goes.
