While playing roulette is considered by most to be as simple as child's play, before playing it is wise to read up on some rules and odds of hitting certain types of bets. First, your odds when betting on a single number are low, or 1 in 35. In other words, your odds that this favorite choice of number will NOT come are 97%. This is why most people who play roulette for extended periods walk away losers. A good rule of thumb is to NEVER bet on single numbers at the roulette table.

This is going to sound like a no brainer, but only place bets on a table that will afford you the highest probability of winning. Most roulette players do not follow this and instead become lured by the bigger odds payouts and actually bet in which the odds are stacked completely against them. You should concentrate your playing around bets in which the odds are up to 25 times better that you will win over the house. Don't accept a 2.8% chance s in bidding on one number. Therefore, go with odds not your instincts. Play the money betting spots on the table.

Remember that not all tables are considered equal. American tables have a built in house advantage that European and online players don't have to deal with. This edge is the 00 space. Most people aren't aware that there are wheels available online, and in land casinos, that do not have this 00 feature. You greatly increase your odds by removing this spot from the house. The best recommendation here is to play only the wheels with the single 0 slot.

Betting the zero spot as to protect your bet is a mistake many people make. It is not a sound strategy and your odds are that the zero will NOT be rolled and are 35 to 1. Therefore, never bet on the zero slot. They offer even money and payout nearly 50% chances of success on each spin. It does, however, afford the house a small edge because when it is rolled players will not be paid on the following bets:

1. Odd or Even - This makes sense because there is a 50/50 probability. The exception is if the ball lands on zero.

2. Black or Red- Same odds of 50/50 but again will not be paid for a zero land

3. 1-18 or 19-35- Again 50% of the time the wheel is spun either group offers success because they are evening split.

Some final tips to remember when placing bets are to choose one bet and stick with it. It is not to your advantage to switch colors, numbers, or type of bet. Also, double your next bet whenever you lose a bet. Finally, once you win again, revert back to your original bet.
