First of all, just because a doctor hasn't prescribed a diet aid, doesn't mean that it doesn't work. I have an opinion that doesn't make me very popular among medical circles:
Most (not all) doctors are "disease professionals" and not "health professionals." If you have a headache, they tell you to take a pill and get rid of the pain. But, when it comes to improving your fitness level and quality of life, most of them are really clueless. Just look how out-of-shape most doctors are.
Also, did you know that many doctors are actually *paid* by the drug companies in order to prescribe their products? That's right - with every prescription they sign "ca-ching" - they make more money. Yes, I know that they will never admit it to you but that's the reality (surprise, surprise). Don't even get me started on that stuff...
Anyway - here are the main types of OTC weight loss pills:
Appetite suppressants:
These curb your appetite so you eat less. It works well, if you have a larger than normal appetite and eat more than you really need. They will usually not work if the reasons of your over-eating are psychological (like anxiety, anger or depression). In those cases you may want to talk to a competent therapist. Probably the best-known appetite suppressant is Hoodia, which is a cactus that comes from the Kalahari desert. It basically tells your brain that "you are full" - so you don't over eat...
Thermogenics:
These cause "thermogenesis" which basically means "heat generation." They raise your metabolism and help your body burn more calories so you lose your extra weight over time. Some known thermogenics include Yerba mate, Guarana and Cayenne.
Fat Blockers:
These basically allow you to eat "fatty foods" but without ingesting all the fat in them. Basically, you take them with your meals that contain high amounts of fat. Then, these "fat binders" will absorb part of the fat and they will be eliminated by the body "the natural way" later. Two well known fat binders are chitosan and NeoPuntia.
There are also weight loss diet pills that combine several of the above ingredients in order to give you a more "well-rounded" approach to losing weight.
Here's what to look for, when "shopping around" for an over-the-counter diet pill:
- Is the product guaranteed? What if it doesn't work for you for any reason. Will you be able to get your money back? Look for companies that offer at least a 60-day money-back guarantee...
- What is the "general verdict" on it? What do previous customers say? On the internet, it's easy to search for reviews and comments about a company...
- Try to purchase from a company that gives you "value-added" services. Some companies offer discounts for bulk purchases, or they offer extra bonuses like weight-loss guides etc...
The top over the counter diet pills should pass all the tests above. If you keep these things in mind, you will find a weight loss pill that will work for you...
Best Over The Counter Weight Loss
We all know that we have all tried to lose weight at some point in our lives. The truth is that it is much easier to gain weight than it is to lose weight that is why almost all doctors and weight loss experts advise us to take care, on a daily basis not to put on extra weight, and to burn off all the calories you take in on a daily basis. The problem with weight loss is that many people are lazy, and all the answers lie within ourselves, if we only looked for them. The other problem is that many of the weight loss pill on the market today are really no good, and many of them contain ingredients that have either not been proven to work, or simply does not work at all.
Lets take Citrus Aurantium, or Bitter Orange as it is better known, it is said to be the industry's brand new ?secret weapon, and is said to take over the reigns from Ephedra since its ban. The only problem with that is that this new herbal extract has not been proven in any studies to be a weight loss remedy, and neither has it been proven in use, and what is worse is that it carries the side effects of Ephedra, a quick increase of blood pressure.
Another ingredient that have not been proven to work for weight loss is Garcinia Cambogia, it is an extract that contains hydroxycitric acid, or HCA as it is better known. It is supposed to be used as an apatite suppressant, and as a suppressant for weight gain and a fat blocker. However, Garcinia Cambogia did not pass the test and is said to not be a weight loss aid that proves effective. It has gastrointestinal symptoms and upper respiratory side effects.
The truth about weight loss difficulties, in fact does not lie with us, it lies with the integrity of the manufacturers of the weight loss pills we by on a daily basis or monthly basis. As it has been proven many, if not all, of the ingredients in the weight loss pills we buy have either not been tested, have not passed the test or is not at all an ingredient that aids weigh loss in any way.
It is said that caffeine, which is one of the main ingredients in almost all of the weight loss pills on the market could also be dangerous to our health. It has side effect of caffeine overdose insomnia, anxiety, restlessness and anxiety. There is another main ingredient that is said to cause nightmare and paranoia, which really does not fit into anyone's life.
The only ingredient that suggest a sleight aid in weight loss is Pyruvate, this is said to reduce fat and speed up the metabolism. It is a natural formula that is found in food and the body. Even though it has passed the test, Pyruvate still requires you to, laterally take a hand full of tablets on a daily basis, and so the overall outcome of this ingredient being a good weight loss aid is very weak.
