When a woman is pregnant the fetus is surrounded by an amniotic sac. An amniotic sac is similar to a bag that is full of a watery like substance that keeps the fetus safe. The amniotic membrane surrounds the amniotic sac, which is the outside casing of the sac. The amniotic sac surrounds and cushions the fetus while it is in the uterus while protecting it by keeping infection out. The pressure that the amniotic membrane puts on the fetus plays a big role in the development of the fetus’ lungs. When the membrane ruptures a tear appears which allows the labor to begin. The membrane can rupture either spontaneously, which means the body is ready to have the baby. Or the membrane can be torn artificially, which means it a tear is put in the sac by a doctor or midwife to speed up the labor process. When the membrane is torn artificially it is normally

If the membrane ruptures too early by a doctor it can cause many complications for the baby. The first main concern is fetal distress. Fetal distress is when the fetus gets tired and the fetus begins to slow down. Some of the symptoms of fetal distress are decreased movement felt by the mother, or a decreased heart rate of the fetus. In cases of fetal distress, caesarian section is normally the route the doctors have to go in order to save the baby.

Another area of concern that the membrane rupture lawyer New York advise to look out for is infection of the fetus. If the membrane is artificially ruptured and isn’t moving as fast as it should be there is a higher risk of infection from instruments used during labor. The fetus can be nursed back to heath after birth with the use of antibiotics. With the amniotic membrane gone the fetus’ head can also have a lot of pressure put on its head from the mother’s contractions. This can be very dangerous for the baby with the supply of oxygen being limited if the baby’s neck or umbilical cord is squeezed.

Most of the injuries to the newborn that result from artificial membrane ruptures are the result of doctor negligence, and the doctor not observing the patient thoroughly after rupturing the amniotic membrane. Also, it is possible that the doctor may have used bad judgment by breaking the membrane too early. Don’t let doctors who use bad judgment continue practicing.
