It seems that everybody has a cell phone nowadays. It doesn't matter if you are a teenager or a senior citizen, it's difficult to imagine a time whenever you didn't carry one of these little devices. Typically, people purchase cell phones whenever they sign up for a plan with one of the service providers. It may be necessary, however, for you to buy a cell phone without a plan for one reason or another. This can be done in several different ways but there are some things that you should be aware of.

The first way for you to buy cell phones without a plan is through the use of a prepaid cell phone. Whenever you have this particular type of service, you are actually paying as you go. You don't have a month-to-month contract; once your time is used up you simply purchase more. You may also want to buy a cell phone without a plan if you do a lot of traveling overseas. Many people carry a cell phone with them whenever they are in another country and they simply insert another SIM card in order to use the service in that particular country.

The two man types of agreements for cell phone users are pay-per use and a monthly contract which can run for one or two years but which option you decide upon will depend on how often you intend to use it. Weigh the prices of both types of agreements before signing on the dotted line because if you plan to use your phone regularly, then a long-term contract might be worth it. Most companies supply people that have contracts with them, additional features not available with basic plans which means you could have caller id or a two number phone for example.

One thing that you want to make sure of if you're going to buy cell phones without a plan is that they are unlocked. If they are locked, they need to be used with one particular service but if they are unlocked you will be able to use them with any service, anywhere in the world. For parents buying a phone for their child, most companies will now allow them to disable this download function so only the mother or father has control over it via a password feature that the child cannot override.

It is always a good idea once you are happy that your plan supplies everything you need so check the small print in case there are any further costs not immediately apparent that will be payable once you have signed on the dotted line. Many contracts come with an insurance warranty for the phone because it is easy to loose or damage a phone that is carried with you everywhere. You will have the assurance that it is replaced should anything untoward happen.

Many companies now offer phones online and do not have physical stores; these will often have late model cell phones that you may find it hard to find accessories for so ensure you trust the supplier before you buy.
